I have a beautiful female blue nose pitbull. She seems to be smarter than the other dogs I have known. She can get out of any collar or harness that I have tried. I have paid for a private trainer to work with her and she does well till she decides she wants out. Nothing and I mean nothing can keep her contained. We have tried, choke collars ( she ducks her head and pops out), pronged collar ( lasted 5 minutes till she broke it) three different walking harnesses ( she can always get her legs out), a head harness ( she broke with her foot) I need some advice. I will pay what ever it takes to keep her safe. Any suggestions?

Your problem sounds like user error more then faulty equipment. With the dogs head slipping out of a choke collar, tells me it was not used correctly. A broken prong collar is usualy from it not being fitted correctly. An improperly fitted prong collar is the number one reason it with come apart. Why was the dog allowed to break the halti head harness. A well fitted harness should not allow the dog to back out. Remember that these items are training tools and should never be left on your dog. Do you have pictures of your dog with the items you listed?

I know it sounds like I don't know what I am doing, and I would agree up until I paid a trainer to help me with her. I have had the trainer put the collar and harness on Blue and she can still get out. The first few times she is really cooperative and then she figures it out or breaks it. ---------- Post added at 01:53 PM ---------- Previous post was at 01:51 PM ---------- Allowed to break the halti head harness? I would not say allowed. I put her in it and turned around to grab the poop bags and I will be darned if she did not put her foot next to her cheek and break the nylon strap. She is and escape artist extrodinarie. But I love her just the same.

I use a martingale collar and a Gentle Leader harness for Ginger. The only way she can slip out of the martingale is if I am grabbing the ring for some reason...I have never had a problem while she is on leash as there is the correct amount of pull to tighten up the martingale. The Gentle Leader harness has been great but it must be kept tight. I alway keep an eye or her to make sure she does not slip out...it should not happen but if she gets a little spastic I could see there being potential on the front portion slipping down her legs if she is heading backwards. Have you use a carabiner to connect your harness and collar? This might be a way to make everything super secure. It probably won't have the best results as it will limit the harness' abilities but it could be worth a shot. ![]()

I have that same harness that Ginger is wearing and Blue pulls her leg out while pulling backwards. i will use a carbiner to connect it to the collar. If nothing else it will give me a few seconds to grab her around the middle before she takes off. Thanks. Ginger is beautiful.

| What Ginger is wearinG is a no pull walking device that looks like a harness. It is meant only for a dog that walks at your side or tries to pull forward. You can see easily by the design that it is faulty if the dog tries to back out, but the carbiner on the collar is a good idea. The trainer put what kind of collar on and harness that your dog was still able to get out of it? With details maybe someone can give you the advice you are looking for.
