It seems lately that when I take Rocky out to exercise, all he wants to do is sit and chew on a stick. He isn't getting any excercise that way but when I throw his ball or frisbee he'll catch it once then drop it to chew on a stick that he has found. Is there anything I can do to encourage him to run and play? also, how long should I keep him out to excercise, I mean like a half hour, or an hour? It's a little more difficult when you live in an apartment to know just how much he should exercise. ![]() __________________ Every time I get my act together the curtain comes down

i have 2 that will absolutely run their asses off the whole time they are out and ol' nick will basiclly lay around in the yard most of the time. he will chase the ball a little bit and he does like to pull the spring pole, but it seems like when he's outside he just wants to sit and enjoy the sun! he's healthy, happy, and stays in shape so i don't worry about him. as long as your dog is healthy and not getting fat, i wouldn't worry. if you are worried, take it to the vet for a checkup.

but... As a rule of thumb I'd exercise him until his tongue is hanging out of his mouth, and then walk him for about 20 more minutes as a cool down. That should be sufficient for daily exercise IMO. |

Rocky is about 8 months old. we're not sure of his exact age because we didn't buy him he was given to us. His favorite hobby is rooting in the ground to see what he can find to chew on lol! he doesn't have any medical problems that we know of. Thankx for the advice. I'll just chase him around and then he''l have to run!! lol __________________ Every time I get my act together the curtain comes down

1. Remove the sticks. ![]() 2. Get involved in his play time. Flirt poles are fun, but with his age, go easy on him and don't use every day. Kongs are fun to toss as they bounce in every direction. 3. Put on your tennis shoes (or sneakers if you're from up north ), grab a leash, hook it onto your dog, and go for a walk. 4. Obedience training.
