| RICHMOND, Va. (AP) -- Michael Vick left Virginia on Monday to enter a drug treatment program at a Kansas prison, a move that could reduce the former NFL star's 23-month sentence on a federal dogfighting conviction. The suspended Atlanta Falcons quarterback is now at the U.S. Bureau of Prisons minimum security facility in Leavenworth, his attorney, Billy Martin, said. "Mr. Vick hopes to participate in programs offered at that facility, including the Bureau of Prisons drug treatment program," Martin said in a statement. Vick tested positive for marijuana in September while he was on supervised release following his guilty plea. The residential drug treatment programs at Bureau of Prisons institutions take place in units set apart from the general prison population, lasting at least 500 hours over six to 12 months, according to Bureau of Prisons policy. Upon successful completion of the program, nonviolent offenders may be granted up to one year of early release. Staff members review the inmates' records and behavior to determine if they are eligible for early release. | He is a celeb. Anyone really surprised he isn't serving his full term? Not me...But I do think he should be allowed back in football. Others might disagree, but there are worse characters out there playing. |

Frankly, I was surprised he got 23 months to start with and never really expected him to serve them, so this is no surprise. Sad though really.

Truth is, this is just our justice system. It's not just Vick who gets off easy. A friend of mine was raped in college. The man was arrested and convicted and received 2 years in prison. He barely served any time at all before he was released and given probation instead. And it happens all over the country dealing with all kinds of cases. As for if he returns to football, IMO that is between him, his coach, & the NFL commisioner. Like someone else said, they've already got murderers, rapists, and domestic violence criminals playing so what's a guy who got charged with a white-collar crime going to bring away from anything? (remember, he did not get charged with actual dog-fighting or animal cruelty)

Am I surprised no not any more than anyone else is. Our system is not about justice it has not been for a very long time it is about the all mightly dollar and this is not secret to any of us. Money opens doors, with money comes power. Is it right that there are people that conduct their selves the way they do such as micheal vick, that get all the breaks, no. There are many people out in his world that have just as much talent if not more than vick yet they may never have what he has because they do not have the right sponsor, promoter, or they were just not in the right place at the right time. As for the NFL sadly I am on the fence with that one, would I personally employ a dog fighter, murder, rapist, not in a million years, there are better people that deserve a chance at a better life than these types of people, however do I belive a employer has a legal right to punish you for illegal activities, Im not so sure. Unless there is some form of code of conduct which is inforced (which I personally think all super stars should have) im not so sure they can just drop him or anyother for that matter, for simply being a dead beat. More to the point I am not here to talk about the system, the nfl, whats right and whats wrong with our society as a whole, my concern is what message will this send about being involved in dog fighting. if a person does the math and figures out how much money there is to be made, and compares it to the worst case senerio of getting caught how are they detoured from getting involved in dog fighting. What do we do as a community to put more pressure on the legal system to up the anny. Is it worth the effort to start up an online petition to try and get to the court asking for Vick to serve his little 23 months and not get off early. My question is how can we best serve this breed with this issue. __________________ Rather than focus on being better than the next person focus on being a better you tomorrow than you were today. ![]() Pit Bull Shirts

Yea, he should be allowed back to play football. I think they should make HIM the football and kick him around the field.

True. I was watching something about Serial Killers last night, and they said that the one guy killed two little boys, and got 15 years in prison, when he got out, he killed 11 hookers. I said to my boyfriend's son. "How in the world did he only serve 15 years for killing two children?" What a messed up system, indeed. Drug dealers and people who use drugs get more time than murders and rapist. Doesn't make much sense at all.
