I really never thought it would be considered here, but it looks like here in east Tennessee the movement to enact a ban or BSL on pit bulls could become a reality. It has been a topic on TV, radio and the newspapers. I listened to a call-in talk radio show a few nights ago, the subject was pit bulls. I couldn't believe some of the callers who spoke with "apparent knowledge" concerning the pit bull. they were stating so called "facts" that the pit bull is the way it is because of a chemical imbalance in the brain, common to the breed. Also they described the "split personality" the dog has along with, according to them, how they should never be around children, how that years of inbreeding has turned them into devil-dogs, how it is not uncommon for them to turn on their owners for no reason and on and on and on. Callers that defended the dogs and tried to explain the facts, the truth about pit bulls, did not seem to be taken seriously at all. It was more of a "yeah sure, I here ya....now let's get back to the real story". If they don't legislate a ban then they are considering a list of rules that will make it hard for many owners to keep their dogs. One example is a possible $500 yearly fee for the right to own a pit bull. Like Miakoda said in another thread, I don't think the reputation of our dogs will EVER change. PS, If I didn't know the truth about pit bulls, after listening to that radio program I'd be calling for a ban myself!

I live in Knoxville, TN which of course is in east TN. I know a few people who work for animal control here, and there is going to be legislation passed according to them, which states that a person cannot own more then 2 pit bulls be it mixed or purebred. Also anyone having more then 2 of our wonderfull dogs will be fined and there dogs taken away and euthinized.

only time will tell, but its best to fight it before the momentum starts. Usually the game for them is to propose some outlandish crap in order to pass a less extreme version...sort of like the old bait and switch. That rottweiler attack on the 9 y/o girl last night isnt going to help the situation any at all either.

Well i know here in Knoxville we have had 2 attacks in the last 3 months. Its mainly because of all the bad breeding here in the south. I know one of the most recent attacks the guy actually hung raw meat from his trees in his back yard right out of reach of the dogs. Also he had a litter of puppies there too and i know his girlfriend was there by herself and was doing something with the puppies when she get attacked. But there has been alot of bad press since then, I even have a hard time taking my dog for a walk now without being harrased by someone...
