| 5 pit bull pups to be offered for adoption January 5, 2008 By Nathaniel Zimmer, Staff writer Five pit bull puppies that authorities say were found living in squalor in a junkyard trailer in Robbins will be offered for adoption by the Animal Welfare League. The puppies were found along with 10 adult pit bulls crowded into the trailer of James Foster, 59, of 2955 Claire Blvd. Foster was charged Friday with 15 counts of misdemeanor animal abuse and 15 counts of not providing the dogs with proper care. He was scheduled to appear at a bond hearing on Saturday morning, but a police officer at the Markham courthouse said Foster posted bond and was released before the hearing. While the animals were being removed by investigators, one of the adult dogs was attacked and killed by another dog with a bite that punctured its heart, according to the league, which assisted with the removal of the pit bulls. “It was like a domino effect,” said the league's Mark Estrada. “One would start the attack and then another would start. There was blood everywhere, the barking was deafening and the dogs were getting even more enraged.” So chaotic was the situation that the adult dogs were sedated using hypodermic needles attached to poles, said the league's Terri Sparks. The puppies, which are around six weeks old, are being treated for worms and other parasites and should be ready to adopt in a week or two, Sparks said. “The puppies are great dogs,” she said. “They can be socialized and learn to live with a family.” The Cook County Sheriff's Office said it appears Foster was breeding the dogs to fight. The league said the trailer was covered in urine and fecal matter. The league can be reached at (708) 636-8586. http://www.southtownstar.com/news/727906,0105pitbulls.article Last edited by Michele; 01-06-2008 at 08:12 AM.. |

| Well looks like the ones that are in charge of the safety and well being of those animals made a major mistake ending in a poor dogs death. What a joke that the people put in a position of authority allowed that to happen. Maybe they should be charged with dog fighting! __________________ Stand for something or fall for anything....... |
