so last night rufus and sonny went to the vet for blood work for titers and the wisdom dna test.. the waiting room was packed last night.. a man and his dog were the loudest and noisest ones. every time his dog barked at the other dogs he would pet her and tell her to be quiet.. after 20 minutes of his dog not shutting up i told him the more he pets her the more he is reinforcing her behavior.. so he gets this cocky attitude and tells me he has done everything, and nothing works.. meanwhile rufus is sitting calmly on the chair next to me, and sonny is laying on the floor.. neither of them are reacting to the other dogs, and everyone is commenting on how well behaved they were.. so the guy says to me, what did you do, tranquilize them before you brought them here? so i said , NO, i TRAINED them to behave in public.... which shut him up fast... his dog was going nuts at every dog that looked at her, she was a beautiful apbt too.... you could see she was very nervous, and his petting her made her worse.. so i commented on how she was a beautiful apbt and he got offended,and said no, she is a mutt... i bred her parents ....... i almost barfed right there... so i told him obviously he hasnt tried everything to train her to behave in public, which got him more irritated., which i was loving every minute, cause he kept looking at my 2 and shaking his head with how well behaved they were.. and when 2 of the vet techs came out to say hi to the dogs he got more mad cause they were so well behaved.....

what a good bunch of pooches i have

Nice job! Don't you just looove people?! I see it every day since I work at a clinic. I can't stand it when people just let their dogs run up to other dogs or people. Where are his and YOUR manners? What if that person's dog is not friendly? Ugh, people just don't think.

I really love the comment "I wish my dogs acted like that." I always say, "They don't just come to me this way. It takes hours and hours of very consistent training and socializing." They don't really know what to say after that because I've basically just told them that it's their own fault their dog isn't trained.

I don't really chime in with training tips anymore unless someone asks me. I've found that if someone's dog is acting like a fool with no manners then the owner is probably the same and will not take advice well.

he was an arse.. i found out later from one of the techs that he regularly beats his wife.... that made me hate him even more..

i was very proud of my guys, and it showed by the other people commenting to me how well behaved they were., even when a great pyr growled at sonny, he just took it in stride and layed down on the floor.. the owners kept apologizing, i told them its ok, she is at the vets, and is probably not in a good mood, and maybe doesnt like older men LOL.. they got a kick out of that, and it made them feel better...

i love sitting there watching all the owners and their dogs... its like dinner and a show..

Yeah, that is fun. I drove my boyfriend's sister and her cat to the vet, and while they were in the back, getting looked at. I was watching the people coming in and there were some interesting characters that made me smile...One lady apparently rescues a bunch of cats, and that day she was bringing in a tomcat. She wanted to get him neutered. Her exact words were, "Well, I finally caught him today. Look at those balls! I can't bring him into the house." lol.
