Angry And another reason why I hate "Crate and Rotate"

I have to take turns which dog gets to run. Edge has been getting upset about spending his time in the crate. He has started screaming non stop. Barking is bad enough, but he screams and it goes right through me! The waterbottle is only a temporary fix. Im having a bad day as is and he isnt helping.

Notch does that if we put him on his chain, and we are inside. I know how annoying that can be. I can't image the annoyance within the house though.

It'll be okay though....

They say "Dont give in, dont let them out!" You sure play hell if you don't" This week I am hateing being a dog owner but everything is going wrong!

My water pump froze up, a pipe busted and then we didnt get everything we needed to fix it right, a hinge broke on the closet door, my treadmill threw me and put my foot through the wall, I had to fix the wall and the treadmill, I have an electrical socket I have to replace because the vaccume cleaner plug wont stay in, the window broke on the garge door and I had to fix that, the dogs never poop in the house and they did three times this week, its just been nuts!

Then there were all the little things like me sucking up the filter to the air purifier in the vaccume when I was trying to clean it. I knocked some stuff off dusting and had to move some stuff to get to it. The dogs have been rowdy and driving me nuts! Im just about ready to go drive somewhere far away, walk out in the middle of nowhere and scream! Oh ya, I didnt feed the cat because I couldnt find her when it was time to eat so Dillan got her plastic container of cat food and opend it and made a mess. Im dont venting for now. Thanks for letting me vent.

Well, cheesecake does sound pretty good right now but it's 1220 am here and one of my goals is to start working out again and slim down. I was doing really well and I got busy and it took a back seat. Im having to prioritize everything this year and make sure I get it right this time. Thanks though

PS its a lot easier to say "NO" knowing you couldnt possibly get it to me any way

Don't you love it, when the proverbial 'you-know-what' hits the fan all at the same time?

My sympathy to you - we went through 'crate and rotate' for several months here last year with three dogs, until we felt we could have supervised 'together time' with all three out in the same area.

My husband started to whine about it ... Trusty screeched and yodeled in the crate ... I wanted to run away at times too.

Have some (low fat) cheesecake it'll get better.

that doesn't compare to the sounds of a dog fight. .....and what do you mean about a water bottle?

i think he means he gives a squirt with the water bottle if the dog starts screaming in the crate.

I've been in crate and rotate more for the last week, and I finally got releived today...both of the dogs Im dealing with are pretty DA and they are both screamers, and I kept it to the point that they never even saw each other...it is a hassle, but better than the alternative.

I see your point though...the 18 month old block of muscle I was dog sitting is back at his own his today so Im back to one dog. I realize it isnt that easy for you...good luck!

you know after the other day when everybody was preaching crate and rotate to the lady who was going to euth the dog when the rott came home i find it somewhat disheartening that a mod is now saying they "hate crate and rotate". this is a good tool for people with 2 DA dogs. people should realize before getting multiple dogs that the possibility of the dogs not getting along exists, and lifetime seperation is ALWAYS a possibility. if you don't like crate and rotate, why not set one up outside and not down a very effective method of preventing dog fights for newbies that don't know any better. not trying to start shit, i just think that we are here for education, and this IS NOT what we want to teach somebody with 2 dogs with DA problems.

i just felt this needed to be said.

ALL of my dogs are on crate & rotate today as today is yard maintenance & chain setup maintenance day. I've got a barker too, but I've learned to ignore it. If that doesn't work for you, move his kennel out of hearing distance.

As for the spray bottle, I've only learned that it will make dogs worse when used on a dog in a kennel. Why? Because they soon learn that the kennel brings that punishment along with it. Not all dogs are smart enough to associate the spraying with their barking.

I don't really think that Alan is bashing crate/rotate. Clearly he's had a lot of shit go wrong in a very short amount of time. I believe Edge is "his" dog, making him his favorite, so it's disheartening to hear him scream. But then it just gets damn annoying.

All in all I don't think he's saying crate/rotate is bad;
he's not coming on and saying crate/rotate is evil and wrong and I'm not gonna do it anymore. He's just venting. I guess I don't see anything wrong with it. He's just saying he wishes things were easier in his life right now and that this is just one thing adding to his stress.

JMHO.

Thanks D. O. You are exactly right. Ive been doing the crate and rotate for 20 years and I agree, it is a must. I will continue to do it. Im just saying for lots of reasons (this one being a spoiled dog screaming in his crate for hours" it's a pain in the butt. So is cleaning ice off your window in the winter; but it beats walking to work. That's all I'm saying. Thanks for pointing that out though Boogieman. For someone who doesnt know me, they could have taken it that I was against it.

well alan i don't know ya and that is kinda how i took it. i really wasn't trying to start shit either, just saying how it may appear to people who really had no idea as to how essential something like crate and rotate can be when owning 2 DA dogs. especially since most people look to the mods for good advice IMO. i mean i could tell you do it, but it sounded as though it was really something you disapproved of. i appreciate you posting again and adding to fill in the "blanks" of the story so we all know where you are coming from. cuz of course as i said the first time.....screaming cuz you're in a crate is much better than hearing a dog fight the first second you have your head turned.

Yea, I might also add that sometimes crate and rotate isnt good enough pending on the dogs. Ive seen dogs fight through crates before. Sometimes those crates have to be covered or be placed in another room behind a closed door. That part depends on the dogs involved.

I was dogsitting for a friend a couple of months ago, and she had unknowingly trained her dog to howl and she would come a let him out for potties and what not... So, you can imagine my shock when he continued to howl and bark and whine for 3 days straight when he felt he was in the crate for to long. What I found that was the magic touch and my friend continues to do this with him know is put a old sheet over the crate so it's completely dark, and play soft, soothing music.( We both have soundscape CD's) It worked beautifully, he quit fussing and would rest peacefully... Maybe see if that helps...

That's basically what I was just going to suggest. You read my mind! lol I think I'll be doing a 100% crate and rotate with another male her soon. Tank's gonna love this....
