Pit bull on lam after escape from Kenora pound
Somebody helped Lily bust out of jail. Kenora police want her back behind bars.
Lily is a six-to-eight-month-old pit bull terrier, black with tan stripes, thrown in the city dog pound when found running at large in November.
The city's animal control officer discovered on Dec. 18 that the canine was on the lam.
Fencing on the south side of the dog pound site had been cut open and the compound latch was "compromised" to free Lily, police said yesterday.
It is illegal to own or breed pit bulls in Ontario. Police said arrangements were being made to relocate Lily to a rescue shelter in another province.
The dog's owner was known at the time of its impoundment but he wasn't charged, said Const. Shannon Bonkowski.
Changes to increase security at the pound might be considered, she said.
"That's always something that's up for consideration," said Bonkowski.
The pit bull was last seen with a red canvas collar and a gold-coloured choker.
Anyone knowing the whereabouts of the dog is asked to contact Kenora police or Crime Stoppers (1-800-222-8477).
