It's apart of our regime to put down food and she doesn't move. Sometimes I forget I didn't release her 30 mins later, but she reminds me As for food in her mouth? hell no! Can you?

Lucy knows the command "leave it" very well, and I can leave a plate of tasty people food on the floor in front of her, leave the room, come back, and she still has not touched it. Most the time when I tell her to leave it, she won't even look at it. I can put the food on her back, on her feet, and on her nose, and she will still leave it.

Yep
Yep
and
Yep

Wanna see a picture of Smooch holding a corndog in her mouth?????
Ok I wil show you anyways.

This picture was taken a couple of years ago. She is the coolest dog on the planet I do say so myself.

Smooch is almost 9 years old now and all she really cares about, is sleeping on my kids bed. She did her time of helping me become a better trainer. I taught her all kinds of goofy tricks and played around in agility etc. Now I'm happy to say this little love bug is retired!

Retired life.

Don't worry I have many many more dogs in training as we speak. They are just learning more comp stuff than the goofy shit Smooch learned.

Oh by the way she's not 100% retired. My 9 year old son (who has been working her since he was 3) still does some obedience stuff with her. If you ever want me to post those awesome picture (from this summer) just let me know.

Maddie can't touch her food until i give her the cue. I can even walk into another room, with her bowl in front of her or kong, and she wont touch it until I tell her...

But i don't think she can hold it in her mouth and not eat it....How the heck do you do that?

Yep...my dog waits to be released in order to eat. If I left him with it and told him to wait...he does. He also waits for my kids and wife. We've been perfecting that from day one...now if its already in his mouth though he wouldn't listen unless I started yelling real loud at him I assume. We've never worked on that one.

If I tell one my dogs "NO" before hand, yes he will leave it no matter where I am or go, until I say I say otherwise (I use "OK" for this). But if I say nothing and simply put it front of him, as soon as I am finished he will smell foisrt to see w hat exactly it is, then eat..or leave it for later.

Yes; NO; Yes
He will even stop eating and spit out the food, bone, whatever when told. I sometimes do this from across our yard or horse pasture if I think he may be eating poop or something else inappropriate.

I can get them not to eat it, but if I turn away, then yes they will, and I can't get them to hold it and not eat it. My boyfriend's father had his doberman trained to hold the treat in his mouth. He could say, "okay, you can have it", and then he could say, "I changed my mind" and the dog would drop it. It was amazing. That dog was super smart though, and my boyfriend's Dad is an amazing trainer. I wish he would teach me some of it. I think it has a lot to do with how patient he is, which isn't my strong point when it comes to the dogs.

Cori: I can put food down and tell her to leave it and she will. If I leave the room she will sit there for a little bit but she would probably get up and eat it eventually. I never tried putting food in her mouth and asking her to just hold it, that would be mean. But if I told her to drop it she would.

Divina (aka chow hound): I can also put food down in from of her and give her the sign for leave it and she will. I can leave the room and she will just sit there and stare at it. She stares so hard that I think she thinks she can will it into her mouth, but it hasn't happened yet. But she's good and absolutely will not touch that food. I've left her in the car before with piping hot fast food filling up the car with it's delicious scent and she will just sit and stare at it. Waiting..... drooling... lol. There's no way she'd drop food once it's in her mouth because she doesn't have it in there long enough! She doesn't chew! You give it to her and she swallows it. If she did actually have to chew it, she would drop it if I asked her to, but she wouldn't be very happy about it.

my dogs know their routine and it is this. at feeding time they all 3 go sit in front of their bowls, wait for me to pour the food, then wait for me to give the ok command.....which is "good puppies". i can even fake em out and just say good pu.....and they flinch a little but won't go....lol i can leave the room for however long i like and they will not move from the sit position. once i give the command they eat. i have a video with it in there if you wanna see it

ugh I wish!!!

Sierra has no shame with food and so we have too keep food off the counters, ect. She once stole a whole Pizza and of course if you raise your voice with her she used to submissivly urinate and she loves her crate so "punishing" her is a hard one.

Moxie willl leave it if told.
