Default Another Health Question

Any time Kayrah get's into zoomie mode on the bed or couch, she pees. Like a full bladder release sometimes. She doesn't even squat anymore either! She just runs and pees.

Is this loss of bladder control an actual health issue or just excitment. My couch is now stinking permanately of urine because of her pee issues. We're getting a new one in Feb when tax return comes in, but I want to see if I can reach the source soon. I'm getting tired of it, frankly.

Any ideas?

Sounds like she just can't hold it when she gets that worked up. It wouldn't be a bad idea to have a urinalysis run to make sure she doesn't have an infection. But it may just be that she gets so excited that she just can't hold it in. Dogs can have urinary incontinence, but that's usually the dog losing bladder control in their sleep or when they've fully relaxed.

The only thing I suggest is to immediately correct her when she starts to get into zoomie mode in a place that you don't want soaked in urine.

Since she's going in for her annual, make sure you ask for 3 year vaccines!

Yea I miss 3 yr rabies. But here in the county I work and live you have to (by law) get a rabies yearly. So I would make sure you can do it where you are living.

Yes there may be a medical issue but it could also just be pure excitment. I would mention it at your yearly. Also at my clinic we offer a yearly wellness profile (bloodwork) for $50. It is a 12 panel w a CBC. See if your Vet has something like that. That can also see if there is any kidney issues. Just a thought

Good idea I go to the military vet, and they're slightly limited (they can't even spay/neuter) but I'll see what we can do.

Either she has some issues with me, or she's sick. She just did a full out bladder let out on her nice doggie bed! Didn't even give an inclination she needed to go...

I'm worried now.

I would be too.

Is there an off-base vet that you could go to? I know HI is expensive, but might be an idea to consider if the military vet is limited in diagnostics/procedures.

I made the appointment for Monday at 230. They said they could run the blood panel, and I'll be taking urine and stool sample with me, just in case.

There are off base vets, but I'm going to see what I can do with the military vets first, because off base is an inital $35 visit fee, when the military is free. But I have no qualms making off base vet visits, if need be.

For those who pay attention to my threads

I took Kayrah to the vet, and first off, I have to brag. I made sure we were both calm, before I went in, but right before I walked in, I poked my head in the door and told the only dog owner inside "I have a dog aggressive dog, just to let you know, so just don't let the leash go". There was plenty of room to avoid the dog, as long as he didn't let the leash go. He said, "it's dog aggressive?" I nodded. "and it's a pit bull too?" I nodded.

We went inside, and surprisingly Kayrah behaved like she never had an issue with a dog in her life! She looked at the dog, looked at me, I treated her, and we walked by without a single issue. The guy's dog was whining like it was dying, and Kayrah sat there, not noticing, and working through obedience wonderfully. Haha hows THAT for "it's a pit bull too?"!!

So we went in, and the vet can't get enough of my dog. She always love to see Kayrah, because she's so wonderfully behaved. We discussed Kayrah's urine issues, and she said she'll send in a urinalysis in. Kayrah got the shots, sat there like a pro. The vet thinks it may either be a yeast infection, or a UTI. I got some anti biotics, to work on her until the results come in, which should be friday.

So we'll know for sure on Friday what's going on. She did a ultrasound and we saw the bladder lining is very inflamed, plus Kayrah has a lot of poop in her system lol I feel bad for my baby

All in all, she was wonderful today.

Good for you on her obedience training, it could not have been easy for her to just ignore the other dog........along with her peeing you had your work cut out for you.

My Isabella, rest in peace, was doing the same thing with peeing. It turned out to be a UTI, which, after antibiotics cleared itself right up. It started with dribbling and and ended up with her not being able to control her bladder at all, and this only took about 3 days to manifest itself. It scared me half to death, and her as well, poor baby.......the vet gave her a shot as well as a course of tabs.....she was back to her old self in no time. It took me more time to get the pee smell out of the bed though......thank goodness for those enzymatic urine sprays.....and air-conditioners.

well, her results came back and according to the vet, her urine is "beautiful". ::sigh:: So maybe it's me. I've moved her bed to where we can see it, and I'll be investing in a bell, to maybe see if that'll be easier for everyone to know when she needs to go.

Yesterday, we took her to a friends house, and they didn't have a dog somehow, before we started watching a movie, she got into zoomie mode. Mind you, a year ago, this dog didn't even know what a zoomie was, and here she is doing it in some strangers house She ran atop one couch, jumped six feet to the next, did a full spin, ran up to the stairs and repeated herself. I kept worrying she'd pee, but she didn't I'll be keeping her on the antibiotics for now, until they're done, just in case.

Question!

"I have a dog aggressive dog, just to let you know, so just don't let the leash go". There was plenty of room to avoid the dog, as long as he didn't let the leash go. He said, "it's dog aggressive?" I nodded. "and it's a pit bull too?" I nodded.

Instead of having a conversation like this, could you leave her in the car until its her turn to be seen? Not that she behaved badly, but having a conversation like that with a fellow dog owner only perpetuates the negative image with people.

They unfortunately don't have a backdoor. The only backdoor is reserved for the military working dogs, and can't be used for it in any other way.

I see it as being safe. A lot of owners think all dogs are safe, and just let the leash go, which is why I now warn ahead of time.

But it doesn't matter She was perfect and made that guy look like an idiot!

because he wasn't minding his own business? He was watching my dog?

Why are we discussing this in a thread about health? Ugh, just forget it. Looks like I'll be leaving this thread alone too.
