Looks great Alan! Remember, petting him or just saying "Good Boy" can be a reward too. ![]() Also, when he down's, make sure he stays down and your reward comes when he's acutally down. The first time he jumped up during the reward, which in turn, rewards the getting up part. Obviously he's still working on down, but I just wanted to toss that at ya. ![]()

Minute one. When doing touch remember it is a nose touching the palm, NO feet should be touching you. NEVER forget to use your release word when releasing them from a stay. I walk around my dogs to their right side pause for a second then release using my release word!!!!! Release is VERY VERY VERY important! Probably one for the most important things you will teach. Going back to watch more. Then I will comment again.

Minute 3-4 I see a confused doggie Remember we do not repeat repeat repeat commands I will teach you how go get a proper down. I want him offering a down before adding the cue. And you saw the louder you got had no effect on him going down. Reminds me of yelling English to a person who doesn't yet know English. After yelling it that person still doesn't understand, however teaching them English in a normal tone works much better.

All and all nice job Alan. At the end he got confused and just decided to lay down and take a break. That's ok I am here to teach you how to do this stuff. You are doing really good too. I know it is so hard learning over the phone and email. I know this sound a little hard on you or nit picking but I hope you know I really thing you are doing a fine job. Keep up the good work you hear me.

I would like to know the purpose of "touch". I'm always looking for useful commands, so could you explain that one for me? Also, I've learned a dog may learn down faster, if you don't use a point to the floor as a suggestion/command. You won't always be able to point towards the floor, so why not save training, and treach a hand signal? Because while pointing to the floor may teach him "down" then you'll have to teach a new signal when you're outside ![]() but for a week of training, thats really good Alan! ![]()

Tammey can explain it better but touch is a foundation command. You can use the touch command to build upon to do other things like get the dog to run through your legs or to pick up something. Tammey showed me a video on youtube of a cat who flips a light swich based on that command. The down thing I am working on. I tried to lure him with down but either Im not doing it right or he isnt getting it. We are gonna work on that.

A lure is always a good foundation, but as soon as it's proofed with a lure, immediately work standing up. Foundation command, huh? I should look into that. Tammy, could you explain it? I was thinking my next trick would be teach kayrah to go through my legs, but I'm lost as to where to start ![]()

Alan is right. One of the first thing I teach is touch. It is part of my "foundation" work. Reason number one is..... it is simple as all get out so the dogs learn it quick and can be rewarded. I can take my hand anywhere and have my dogs give me a simple touch instead of for example be scared of something/someone. Basicly it can build confidence in a dog. "Oh I can do that". etc. All touch really is, is a target. If I can get my dogs to target my hand I can get them to target other things. I use a hand target to teach "get in", heeling, pick up stuff etc. So it is a handy little command that is really simple and you can use it anywhere. Hee hee hee even in the show ring.

All luring is, is guiding the dog with (example) food. When luring I only lure a handful of times then I give the dog a chance to offer me the behavior. If dog still isn't getting it I might back up to luring a couple more times or go to targeting.

lol my next reply was you can start at touch. Once your dog is touching the palm of your hand move your hand to where the dog has to touch your hand between your legs. Hope I am making this sound right. lol

I use weave only because I use wiggle in agility for the weave poles. Cool thing about dog commands is you use anything you want as long as you are consistant with the word.

I know I tend to irritate most trainers, because I use "wait" for stay. Wait for Kayrah means to wait for however long I mean, in whatever position I've put her. I don't understand how people can use "wait" and "stay" for the same pup. Weave is a good idea. I'm on leave, so perhaps we can work on that for the next month I'll keep you updated!

With my dogs "stay" means stay there until I come back to you and release you. "Wait" mean wait there until I tell you what is next. Kind of like a recall, I have my dogs "wait" there. Then I walk X ft in front of them and call them. They know I am not coming back to them to release them. Please do keep us updated..........
