Smile Homeless Pit Bull and Poodle Find True Love-UPDATED With A Happy Ending!!!

Homeless poodle and pit bull find true love

Vincent the poodle and Angel the pit bull mix are in foster care awaiting adoption. The two have been inseparable; Vincent even 'protects' Angel while she sleeps (above).

Like Romeo and Juliet, theirs is a doomed love.

One glance tells you he's from the posh side of life. He's well-bred, well-groomed.

She, on the other hand, is from the rough side of the tracks, with an iffy background and an uncertain future.

But from the minute he laid eyes on her, Vincent didn't care about their differences. He was in love and that was that. Sure, some might call it "puppy love." They are, after all, dogs. But Vincent doesn't seem to care that he's a well-coiffed, 12-pound poodle and his love, the object of his adoration, is a 40-pound pit bull mix.

"I brought him home from the shelter, and he just honed in on her and hasn't left her side since," said Stacey Hall, who works for Southern Hope Humane Society, the group that runs Fulton County's animal shelter. "He follows her everywhere. He fights the other dogs to keep them away from her. Because she sleeps on the floor, he does too. He's not happy unless he's near her."

Vincent showed up at the shelter several weeks ago, a well-fed stray with a good haircut. Shelter workers assumed someone would come looking for the 3-year-old poodle. But when no one did, Hall decided to foster him. She'd been fostering Angel for several months, ever since she'd come into the shelter in such bad shape she ended up the poster dog for the shelter's "Don't Get a Dog" campaign aimed at stopping the neglect of animals.

Despite her starvation and broken bones, probably from being kicked, the vet said, Hall describes Angel as a sweet, loving dog who likes all people and animals.

Maybe that's what Vincent sees in her, why he wants to protect her.

"He walks around with a big silly grin on his face like, 'Yep, that's my girlfriend,' " Hall said. "He has it whenever he's with her."

But like Shakespeare's ill-fated lovers, Vincent and Angel are not to be.

"People who want a pit bull don't want a poodle, and people who want a poodle sure don't want a pit bull," Hall said. "It's going to break his heart, but I don't see how we could ever place them together."

Until then, Vincent, it seems, has found his true love. The poodle and the pit bull.

How sad that no one would want to adopt these two together.......I don't like poodles but Vincent sounds alright to me.

What a sweet story.

I dislike poodles but gee I hope they find a home together, it would be the best of both worlds something a hubby and wife could both love.

Gosh if Big Girl wasn't such a brat, I would adopt them too. Well lets all hope that someone who is able to take these two in feels the same as we do and takes them both.

I had a Pit Bull Poodle mix one time,
not much of a watch dog but she was a vicous gossip.

Nice couple, wish we had room for them.

Smile Poodle and pit bull live happily ever after

Poodle and pit bull live happily ever after

By SANDRA ECKSTEIN
The Atlanta Journal-Constitution

There's a happy ending to an Atlanta Romeo and Juliet story — the tale of Vincent, the poodle who fell madly in love with Angel, the abused pit bull, at their foster home.

No matter that she outweighs him four times over, or that her reputation isn't all that great (although she is). Vincent loves Angel. Which caused their foster mom, Stacey Hall of Southern Hope Humane Society, some anxiety. Because she knew placing two dogs was hard enough, but a poodle and a pit bull? That just wouldn't happen, she said.

But after the story of the star-crossed lovers appeared in The Atlanta Journal-Constitution, several homeowners stepped up willing to take both dogs. And the lucky couple? Elizabeth Dodwell and Alex Markovich of Duluth.

"We'd lost our old dog, Muttley, earlier this year, and we'd been thinking it was about time to get another dog, then I saw the picture, and Vincent's smile reminded me so much of Muttley's," Dodwell said. "And then I read Angel's story, and Muttley had been abused, too, before we got him. They just had so much in common with our little dog."

Hall — who had nursed Angel back to health after she was seized from an Atlanta home, the dog having been starved and having suffered a broken leg and pelvis — delivered the two lovebirds to their new home on Dec. 8.

"I was in tears," Hall said. "It was hard placing her because she was so terrified every time she left my home. But I knew they were a great home and the best thing that could happen to them. But it was hard letting her go."

Hall and Dodwell worried about Angel adjusting, but she's doing well thanks to a lot of love and Vincent's support.

"They play tug of war in the yard and chase each other around the house, and we bought them an extra-large dog bed ... so when they're tired, they just curl up together and take a nap," Dodwell said.

Going beyond the yard has been a bit harder. Dodwell said Angel is terrified of some vans, and the first three times she wanted to take them to the dog park, she had to carry Angel to their van because Angel wouldn't walk outside the house.

"But now she runs to the van, jumps in on her own and sits in the back seat watching the world go by all the way there," she said.

At the park, Dodwell said Vincent is fearless, wading in with even the largest dogs, while Angel's favorite playmate is a tiny Yorkie.

"They really are just the most precious things, they've brought so much joy into our lives," Dodwell said.

"We plan to have them for a lot of years to come. They're home."

I wish them the best!

However, I must admit that I get nervous with the placement of "pit bulls", especially ones that have some issues, with people who have no experience with bulldog breeds.

I thought the same thing. Then when something happens the new owners figure the dog is bad and they give it up, instead of realizing the error in their judgement. Hopefully they figure it all out in a positive manner before a problem arises.

Why? I bring my pit bull to the dog park nearly every day. He never has any problems. The trouble makers are usually the smaller breeds. In fact there are a lot of pit bulls who share the dog park. They are usually the best behaved.

Do a search on here about dog parks, and you'll discover all the reasons why it's a bad idea
