Palm Beach,FL -- A 16-year-old was arrested today for cutting off a 6-month-old pit bull's ears with scissors, sheriff's investigators said.

The teen, whose name was not released, cut off the puppy's ears March 20 and left it on the front porch of Lavon Jackson, whose pit bull bred the litter, investigators said.

Jackson took the dog to a vet and it was later turned over to the county animal care and control.

The teen confessed to cutting off the dog's ears because he wanted to give it a "cosmetic look of cropped ears," he told investigators.

The veterinarian who treated the dog said the cuts caused "extreme pain and suffering," according to an arrest report.

The teen was charged with animal cruelty and taken to the Juvenile Assessment Center.
