Default New from Canada

Hi all, I'm Marsha Boulton. I live on a farm in southwestern Ontario, Canada where I also write books. My first bull terrier, Wally the Wonder Dog (Rather's Wallace Stevens), so capitvated my life that I wrote a book about him - "Wally's World" which was published last year by St. Martin's Press in the US and MacMillan in Australia. Losing him was the hardest thing that has ever happened to me, but I am glad to have him live on through the words he gave me.
I now share my life with another brindle boy who we call Monk (aka Monk-E, Monkster, Monkinator) actually named after the great jazz pianist Thelonius Monk, hence his AKC name Bullyhill's Straight No Chaser after the great Monk composition. He is 16 months old and 80 pounds of enthusiasm for life. Very much his own dog, he has helped heal my heart and happily leads me on new adventures.
I love all bull breeds and have been active in the anti-BSL movement and the legal challenge to BSL in Ontario. Cheers!
Marsha Boulton and Monk
Pics etc are at www.marshaboulton.com until I figure out how to pst them here. Thanks.

Thank you all for the warm welcome.
Glad you like the Wally's Week concept, Purple. The goody bag giveaway at animals shelters really works. Not that people would (or should) adopt a dog because they get some swag, but because it draws attention to the essential service the shelters and volunteers provide and because it reminds people who might be thinking of bringing a new dog into their home that this might be a good time to check out the available dogs.
Of course, many of the dogs available are often "pit bull" types. It is great to get people into the shelters to meet these dogs and learn about their true disposition and temperaments (which can be hard in the context of a shelter). I wrote wrote a story for fetchdog.com, actress Glenn Close's dog-stuff on'line store and philanthropic venture. It is at
http://tinyurl.com/d9hrhn (I made it a tiny url for convenience, just click through).
At the last Wally's Week in Tampa Bay. Florida, we gave away about 200 adoption bags at their big PetExpo. When the SPCA found out I would be attending and might want some bully love while I was there, they pulled two white mini-bull terriers from the local "kill" shelter and fostered them back to health. They were the sweetest dogs, but they had been part of a cruelty investigation and seizure. They were skinny and had heartworm, skin problems, overgrown nails etc when they first found them. It was worth everything to have them saved. Normally dogs whose breed contains the word "bull" and who have expensive, labor intensive health problems don't make it out of "kill" shelters. Rescue groups have to be vigilent checking for them to get them out real quick.
I'm planning more Wally's Weeks for later this year. I know that we will be in New York for the launch of the ASPCA's Adopt a Shelter Dog Month. Monk loves New York. I'd like to introduce him to TV's Rachel Ray and her dog Izaboo.
And, Dray, I admire your website. Love reading the pedigrees (including the gorgeous handwritten ones) and finding kennel names that I've seen in my dogs pedigrees and my friends etc. Aricon and Bulivar stuck out immediately, as well as the great Kilacabar. You certainly did find a way to keep the colour in your line with the magnificent Bagheera! Please email me privately about a book.
Happy hucklebutts to all. And happy spring. I am confident that the seemingly endless Canadian winter is about to transit into spring. This morning as I walked Monk near the frozen farm pond, we watched two Canada Geese land and walk around on the ice, honking at it as though to say "Get melting." Of course, Monk thought they were honking at him and he was transfixed.

Welcome glad to see we're getting more Canadians to add some class to this place...

So do Bull Terriers not fall under the ban in Ontario??
