Thumbs down First experience with Haters and it didn't go well

Well I was at the store the other day our local smoke stack with my son and he was harassing me to buy him a juice and I told him no. An older lady who was also shopping decided to butt in and tell me I should get him some juice ( he'd already had 2 juice box's in the last hour) She start yapping about if I can't afford it she'll buy it for him then assumed I was carrying 2 purses so I must have lots of money (one is Mindi's carry bag cause she so tiny she fits in it I put her in there to go into the store) Anyways I'd had enough and said actually my Dog's in there. And she says really let me see so I brought Mindi out for a visit. She says oh how cute and then what kind is she and I explained that Mindi is roughly to my knowledge 3/4 APBT and 1/4 Min Pin (her mom is 1/2 Min Pin 1/2 APBT and her dad is pure APBT not quite sure how it would work for Mindi's breed ratio so I guessed) she instantly pulled her hand away and said "oh my god it's going to bite me you shouldn't have that thing around your child" Well she'd already pissed me off pretty good undermining my authority with my son so I said "yeah right a 6 week old puppy's really going to do some major damage to you isn't she, and don't tell me what kind of dog I should have around my child you don't even know me and so you know I plan on raising my dog right" I walked away payed my purchases and left went to a friend's house a few blocks away and told her about what happened. She laughed and said how stupid some people are (she has a five year old son and no dogs and is in love with Mindi). I know she's right but I shouldn't have acted the way I did I should have taken the time to educate the woman. I'll try to do it next time I just let my mouth get the best of me this time and busybodies really get the best of me I was raised by one (my aunt) who is having a fit about Mindi.

Everyone I've told has got a good laugh out of it. I'm actually having a lot of fun with Mindi I've had her exactly a week today and she's extremely smart. She's almost house trained, knows how to sit, down and come. We still working on stay but I think for 6 weeks that's really good. I've had dogs in the past that housebreaking took months not weeks and basic training was an absolute chore but with Mindi it's been fun and she learn fast. Mindi is my first dog with APBT in her and I thought long and hard about getting her to make sure we could handle the problems like DA that sometimes arise, we decided we could and Mindi came home last Sunday. She came from a bad place but now she will have a good home. I wish I could save her Momma which we love dearly but nobody will do anything not even the SPCA

It might be a blessing that people are a bit afraid of "pit bulls". It will stop them from reaching out and surprising them...where they might snap. In reality, people in general should nver assume certain dogs are aggressive and others are safe to pet. I had a party poodle ( white and apricot ) that you really shouldn't reach out to pet...

I would rather have somebody "ask" if my animal is safe to engage. I mean the animal is left in a "spot" when a stranger reached out to "touch" them...they just don't know.

I've experienced people freaking out when my pup was tiny as well. It's pretty funny.

In most ways I completely agree. I mean, anyone could do anything to Fiona and she just loves it. Noelle on the other hand is skittish so I'd rather people NOT just reach out and be touching her.

This Will Happen A Lot, All You Can Do Is Try And Show People That Our Pits Are Sweet And Would Not Hurt Them. But Sometimes It Can Be A Little Funny.

My daughter, the Gremlin, usually sets people straight right quick. If I had a dime for every person she set straight, I'd have my house paid off.

When Gremlin isn't with me, I usually ask them if they truly believe everything the media feeds them. That usually sets them to thinking.

Don't feel bad, my mom won't even come to my house, because the last time she did she was in a new car and Brutus did not want to let her out until we told him it was o.k. Ever since then, she says I'm a bad mother for having that vicious animal. He was protecting us.

not for nothing, but Brutus sounds like he has some serious temperament issues . A qualified behaviorist would be a wise investment.

and those kinds of people are the exact reason I made this t-shirt!

Dont feel bad. Sometimes we try to educate and they are too stupid to get it anyway. Sometimes they get the sarcasm though.

I get it all the time. People have actually stopped me on the street when my daughter (she's 8) and I are walking our two petbulls and have the nerve to ask me "are those pitbulls?" and when I reply yes they always say something like "aren't you afraid to have them around your children" or "aren't you worried about how mean they are?" My standard reply..."you only have to worry about how mean they are if your trying to crawl through my window." Usually shuts them up right quick!

I never cease to be amazed at others' ignorance and stupidity! I wish some people spent as much time, attention and care on their kids as I do on my dogs -- If they did, they'd have less time to worry about us and the breed and the world would be a better place!

People who go on the attack because you have a "pit bull" are usually pretty dog stupid in general. In fact, I'd go so far as to say the vast majority of pet owners know to feed, water, walk, and take their pets to the vet once a year and that's all. Do you think people would get cocker spaniels if they knew that breed has one of the lowest bite inhibitions? Of course not! People like to think they know aalllll about dogs because they have one, but they have NO IDEA what traits come with what breeds. With most breeds, the only people who can give you any good, solid info on a dog is either a breeder or does some type of showing/work.

We're kind of the minority in the mammal pet owner world. Our breed is faced with such adversity what we have actively sought out information and done everything we can to learn the truth. Most pet owners don't have our problems, so most pet owners have no reason to do anything but buy a cute, fuzzy puppy and call it a day.
