Default Rainy day potty blues

In the 6 months that we've had Gypsey amazingly enough it has never rained for more than an hour or so at a time. Well its been raining the past 3 days and we just found out that Gypsey doesn't like going potty in the rain. This is creating problems. She's normally pretty good about not going potty in the house, its been probly 3 months since we've had an accident. She's pooped twice in the house in the last two days, she sneaks into our computer room and poops in the corner. For when she does something bad I use the "what's this?", saying whats this in a lower stern tone of voice and combining it with a couple "bad girl" and "no". The first night after I went through everything with her I went to grab her by the back of her neck and she snapped at me. Now, I don't hit my dog. But I'll be damned if I will ever allow ANY animal to EVER snap at me for ANY reason. Then yesterday we went through the whole ordeal again, without the snapping this time from her. And now today she won't go to the bathroom when we take her outside. She just stands there and looks forward. So we've been playing the kennel game, she comes out of her kennel we take her outside for about 5 mintues, if she doesn't go then she comes back in the house and back into her kennel for another hour. Before I started putting her back in her kennel I was keeping her tied to me. I don't know what to do besides leaving her tied out all day in the rain and making her miserable, I'd rather not have to do that because she'll be horribly dirty. How am I supposed to get my dog to go potty outside in bad weather? I don't want to keep playing these 'games' with her this winter.

What would have been good and you could have avoided this was taking her out side in the rain as a puppy and going to the bathroom and staying outside for a Lil while and not just running back in the house to get her use to going to the bathroom weather its raining or not I really don't no what you did while she was a puppy. Both my dogs no that if its raining they best finish fast or were gonna be out side for a while and there gonna get wet so they make it a point to finish fast if its raining hard. If i were you i would put on my poncho and go out in the rain and have some fun with her to show her its not a bad thing to get wet a Lil Just my opinion. if i start playing with my dogs they will stay out in the rain and play all day, as a matter of fact its raining here now in N.Y

unless you catch her in the act of pooping or peeing don't reprimand her afterwards, she has no idea why you're punishing her. I 'm going through the same thing with my pup(4 months) never really had to go out in rain before this week. At first she would just stand there and try to run back in the house. I would just keep taking her back to her spot till she went. I also let her out with my older dog to play on the wet grass while it was just raining lightly so she saw it was ok and had some fun in the rain. She had a few accidents the first day, but she's pretty much over it now. I just take her out and won't let her back in till she goes, it didn't take long for her to figure out the faster she went the less wet she got.

As far as the snapping, I don't know what to tell you about that without knowing more about your dog. She probably had no idea why you were reprimanding her and got scared though.

Problem is that we didn't get Gypsey until she was at least 6 months old. I don't know anything about her past because the SPCA picked her up as a stray. It was nice having a dog that was a little older because she was partially potty trained when we got her, but I do regret not having her for those first 6 months when they are SO impressionable. Not too mention not having any puppy pics of her... god I bet she was an adorable pup.

mine will hold their potty until it stops raining, BUT , if i take them out on leash in the rain they will go.. and i have taken them out in the yard inthe rain growing up, but for some reason they can poop/pee on leash while its pouring out, but just throw them in the yard inthe rain and they refuse to move ..

take her out onleash when it rains, bring an umbrella for you, a raincoat for her, and stay outside until she goes
