I have a question about, outside, permanent, dog pen wire. {In case you do not call them dog pens, I apologize for using the wrong words, but that is what I call them.}

What size {gauge} wire?
What type {chain link, cattle panels, hog wire, etc}?
What brand?
How high?
How large an area for one dog {full time}?

Any and all information will be appreciated.

Thanks, Mule

depends on the dog..and what yuo want... some folks make the kennels large, like 10 x 20 or more.. some dogs are escape artists, so a concrete ground and wire top are needed, you have to also add a tarp to the top for shade.. the bigger you go the more expensive the kennel ...

I have 3 pits {large} and a 50/50 rott/chow {large}. I need individual kennels. I didn't figger on quite that much area per dog. Can't afford concrete. Have plenty of trees fer shade.

Maybe I'd be happier with a good chain set-up.

Thanks fer the help.

look at it this way, with a proper chain set up the dog will have more room to freely move around, as opposed to a kennel.. however, the chain set up will not prevent other strays from coming to your dogs, unless your regular backyard is all fenced in.. a kennel would prevent strays from attacking your dogs ..

Other dogs are a real concern. Especially when females come in heat. Even kennels without the wire being buried in concrete. I have had dogs dig in twice. {Why don't people keep their stuff at home?} My closest neighbor says she lives in the country and will not put her dog up. But she does not want me to turn my dogs loose. Oh well.

That sucks! Gotta love those fun neighbors...
You ever mention to her that he might stay home if he were fixed?

What about burying the fence a few feet underground for your female's kennel? Perhaps with a coffee can of concrete at key posts (depending on what you end up building it with of course)?
Then the other kennels could just be regular, if you aren't worried about someone digging in/out. I'd probably choose kennels because of the neighbor's dog wandering over.
