I second what Michelle said. Without a vet looking at him it would be really hard to tell. You may get opinions on here but it would be irresponsible to diagnose without first seeing the dog.
I hope it's nothing serious and just a short nose or something silly, lol.

When we got Gypsey from the SPCA she was on the tail end of kennel cough and did the same noise as what I'm assuming you ment. Definately go to a vet! The SPCA advised me to use children's cough medicine for about a week. I understand how unnerving it can be to have your beloved making noises like that. It may be nothing but your much better off just taking him to the vet and finding out for certain.

Wow. All my years working in vet clinics, I've NEVER heard a vet suggest giving a dog human cough medicine. Not good.
Kennel cough, IF that's what's causing the inverted sneezing, requires antibiotics and is highly contagious to other dogs. I'd get to the vet pronto.

Lassic: Hera snores like a freight train! It's so bad, she's not allowed to sleep with us =)

Galadriel: I have heard of vets telling you to give Benadryl for a bug bite but not for kennel cough, if that's what this dog has....

The first time I heard one of the vets I worked with suggest it, I just looked at him. It was for a lab pup with KC and a SEVERE cough. It worked.

Hmm! Learn something new every day! But hey, that's why we're here =)
Now that you mention it Michele, I have heard vets suggest benedryl for allergies, in very small doses. I guess the dosage would be one of my biggest concerns. Definitely consult a vet before using these types of home remedies.

for kennel cough you can give childrens cough meds, the one for 3 years old and younger, as it doesnt have any drugs in it..
i have used it on mine when they got KC from a foster i was babysitting..

i also give benadryl for bee stings and allergies..

it could be a reverse sneeze too... or a snorting little piglet noise....

one of my bulldogs got into a yellow jacket nest ( that my 4 year old son was playing near, and would have probably gotten into if the dog didn't save him) and got multiple stings on his head. I took him to the vet and they gave him a shot of something ( long time ago) and had me give him benedryl for a few days after.

I was just thinking that. One of mine does that at times. And usually it is when his allergies is bothering him.

It wasn't the vet really that advised me to use children's motrin, it was the SPCA. They had a horrible outbreak of kennel cough around that time. Gypsey had already been through the worst part of it and was at the 'tail end' of her 'cold', she had already been given antibiodics. I most definately think that you should check with your vet before assuming that that is what your dog needs. It worked for her though, she got a dose in the morning and one in the evening.
