Default Rapper DMX charged with animal cruelty

The report from an Arizona courtroom on Tuesday about rapper DMX sounded oddly familiar to the raid on Michael Vick’s home in 2007 for dog fighting and animal cruelty. The 38 year-old rapper, plead guilty to drug, theft and animal cruelty charges during his day in court. He will serve at least 90 days in jail for his offenses and has agreed not to own any animals in the future.

The rapper, whose real name is Earl Simmons was, arrested in August 2008 when police raided his home in Maricopa County after someone reported possible animal abuse. They found the bodies of three dead dogs that had been buried in a shallow grave and another twelve malnourished Pit bull terriers at the house. The starving dogs had been left in the hot desert sun without food or water.

When police came to his house last Friday to take him into custody, another five Pit bull mixed puppies were confiscated. They were sent to a local animal rescue group for protection.

During his trial on Tuesday, DMX tried to explain why his dogs were found in such poor health when police raided his home last summer. The rapper blamed an employee he had hired to care for the dogs, but the judge presiding over the case didn’t buy the story. The court pointed out that the responsibility fell to the rapper because he was the owner of the dogs.

DMX has featured the Pit bull dogs in his music videos, but there was also a question in the mind of the court whether some of the dogs had been used for dog fighting. In the past the rapper has supported the illegal and inhumane activity and some of the deceased dogs found at his home had bite marks on their bodies. Will this case become another Michael Vick scandal?
The rapper will receive his final sentencing next month.

I have seen the clip of of when that happened with X. I know that it was from a fault employee that was lacking it on the care of the dogs. X spends most his time up in New York. As for the fighting i think it is kinda dumb to put something on a person that might have happen awhile back if it did in deed happen.

Honestly...if it was him or an employee...he's still at fault. These are his dogs...and he should have spent more time finding someone to care for his dogs while he was away or not have the dogs at all.

No surprise at all, but he makes me sick!! Either take care of your own dogs, or don't get any dogs for someone else to look after. Money & fame= wants to look big and bad by owning this breed. I bet they had those huge 3" spiked collars on too.

Good point. If I had that much money my dog would be eating out of a solid gold bowl. This guy can't even guarantee them something to eat.

This guy is a moron....I live in Phoenix, and this jerk is in trouble all the time....he is currently doing time here for felony speeding on the 101 hwy thru photo radar at over 100 mph....twice...on different days, with a car that has DMX across the windshield.

Now his is falling pray to his "friends" who are robbing his house and distroying his property while he is jail......Karma

I do/did like that song "ruff riders" but only because when my kids where little we turned it into a fire safety, with the "stop, drop, roll around put the flames out".....lol...kinda of dorky....but I ran a daycare in my home.....we also turned Marlyn Manson's song Dope Show...to....."We're all stars now, in the dog show....there's lot's of pretty pretty pups that wanna lick your face off......(ok, I was home alone with lots of little kids....maybe you had to be there) lol

I don't think any of us should make such statements.
who are we to judge how many dogs people can have in their yard?
if I decided to own 100 dogs on my yard, I would be very offended by your post.
if I have the right amount of time and money to take proper care of those 100 dogs, then there is no problem with owning that many dogs.
but, I agree, in cases like this, where there is neglect and stuff, they should own NONE.

This is what gets me also and if you have dog would you not notice what kind of shape they are in? I agree that he could have 2,000 dogs if he wanted them but it is up to him to make sure they are getting cared for.

I will not say that he was fighting these dogs because they do not have enough proof of that. Do you think if he had a yard full of poodles that bore a few scares he would be charged with "fighting"?

Every APBT owner needs to be aware that if someone calls for the least little thing such as barking or whatever and they find one scar, a break stick and now even a garden hose they will accuse us of the same. It is really sad.

Now was it his fault these dogs were in such shape, YES and he should be charged for not caring for them.

The rapper will receive his final sentencing next month.
Hows' this for a sentence; throw him in the hot dessert sun with no food or water, just like he did to his dogs.

ESPECIALLY because of who he is he should have taken much better care of his animals! as a famous person you don't want people remembering this every time they hear your name! if ANYTHING for that reason he should have made sure every single one of those animals were pampered as hell every day of their lives! and whats the point of owning 20 "Bad ass" dogs if they're all skinny and sickly looking!?! it doesnt matter if he NEVER stepped foot in the home the dogs were at, they were his responsibility.
