Arrow Do you think my APBT is skinny?

she is 7 mths and for her size i think she may need to put on a few pounds?!? her stomach looks a little too small when she walks and when she lays on her back. but then again i dont know if its just me or if shes at the size she should be for her age. (Note: the pics dont really show what i see) but would still like your opinions

what do you think?

also would like to know what would be a good way to make her alil stocky?

She's lovely! I wouldn't change a thing!
Being stalky is genetic. If you were to try to make her thicker, you'd just end up with an over weight pup =)

ok...she looks great for 7 months...the only thing I ask is what are you feeding?

I would not change her weight...but i would start walking her and turing some of that puppy fat..(not a lot) into some muscle...at around a year you can start working her a little more to build more muscle...by means of walking, running, treadmills, springpole....but I would recommend the flirt pole over the spring pole.....
I think she looks good....the way she is...if you start feeding her more, like was said you will have yourself and unhealthy over-weight pup/dog!

i mean i agree that she looks good for her age. i guess i was in the state of mind of how our male looked at her age. he was really stalky as a pup. he's about 75lbs now at 3yrs old. as for her she gets plenty of exercise and runs dialy i feed her twice a day she eat Nutro!

she gets enough exercise alone when we let the 2 of them out back just to play lol

Whos dog is 75 lbs....Just curious...
75 is quite large for this breed unless they are not a true bred APBT...

I get the same thing about Angel.. my vet gets on me everytime I am in there about her being underweight... I tried to explain that her parents are both low 40s in weight... but still she says she's too skinny

I think your pup looks great. She is in great condition for 7mos. As Fearlessknight said now is a great time to start with some light exercise. At 70-75lbs your male should may need to slim down. In the picture of your two dogs the pups looks in a lot better condition. A dog being stocky is genetic and most apbt's are not stocky, now the AmStaff has been genetically bred to be stocky and most show versions are carrying to much weight. The apbt is not about size but athletecism.

well i just want to thank you all for your replies
and i agree that she is in good shape and will continue the way i have been.
i think its the perfect time to start exercising her more also and getting her athleticism up! she's quiet a jumper and loves to run.

as for our male he is alil heavy but beeelieve me he is alittle more energetic than the female. alot of his weight is muscle but i would agree that he may need to lose a couple pounds but not much.

these two APBT are a perfect example of how Loving and Caring and Non Aggressive this Breed is... have funny stories of others walking their dogs or parents with their kids at the park when they see us coming lol

nah, she looks fine, imo.
i see a LOT of over weight and even obese dogs come thru our front doors. she's fine.
here's a decent reference chart that you may find useful:

My female is very trim, she weighs 46 lbs but it's all in muscle. She is almost 10 months old. I think your pup looks just fine. It might also help if you put her on a better quality dog food if your not feeding a quality dog food already. Remember when reading dog food ingredients, no corn, wheat or soy and no animal by products! You can't find these foods in a grocery store. You may pay a little more but it's well worth it for health.

she looks fine for a pup

I never would have guessed your male was 70-75lbs. He does not look that big in the pict. I'm guessing he must be tall

She is a beautiful girl. She makes my Lucy look positively FAT. And yes, Lucy is a bit overweight, but your dog looks perfect.

I meant to add, before I hit the reply button, that Lucy weighs 57 pounds now. She's nine months old. And she is extremely active, but she is also spayed. She started becoming a porker after that.

Bubba, on the other hand is BIG. He weighs is at 97 pounds. And he is supposed to be APBT. At least his parents were. But he towers over them, as well as being more muscular. I believe he has AB in his bloodline somewhere. He topped out at 102 which is when I put him on a diet. But he doesn't look obese by any means. He is healthy, but HUGE. As a puppy we had to give him vitamin supplements because he wouldn't eat puppy food. Either way he's my Little Big Boy and I love him. And he is still a lap dog. My lap just can't take it as much as it used to.

I like a LEAN dog. Kayrah is about....42-45 pounds. When I went on leave for 11 days..she got about 50 pounds (that piggy!) and I likes how round she was, but I like to see the muscle we work hard for. I like to know I have a typey bulldog

I believe, and this is just my opinion, if your dog doesn't have a "tuck" then he/she is overweight. Dogs aren't meant to have bellies.
