| OK, Information needed. What is gameness? How do you "test" for it? When do genetics end and the need to keep the parents in the fighting ring begin? And if you do not train a dog to fight, why can't you breed game dogs genetically to keep the bloodlines solid without matching them? what makes a dog game bred instead of a dog coming from game dog lines? I am trying to understand a world I do not agree with. None of this actually makes sense to me. Educate me... __________________ Bully Mama |

| My understaing is that gameness is desire to continue fighting (or do the task at hand) even if the dog is tired, injured, or even dying. Dogs are game tested by exercising them until they are exhausted, and then putting them into a short fight with a fresh dog that is slightly stronger and bigger. If the dog that is being tested keeps trying to fight even when it's at a clear disadvantage, the dog has a high level of gameness. Gameness is about how a dog responds to an extreme challenge, so you can't test for it without putting the dog in an extreme situation. The trait is completely opposite to what would be advantageous for pack survival, so it's a very difficult to hold on to it genetically. That said, if you want a pet dog that retains the apbt's tenacity for work, I think it's sufficient to test it with excercise on the treadmill, spring pole, and flirt pole. |

| Why don't you try using the search feature. It's been discussed a million times and posting it all again is quite silly. |

| A simple answer is "Gameness" is an APBT Trait that must be a proven and by definition has to be done in the pit. You can't train for gameness, can't teach gameness and you can't claim gameness without the test...It is unfair to Game Dogs of the past to do so. This does not mean that an untested dog isn't game...but without the test it can't be called game. You can have a "gamebred" dog or a dog from a "gamebred bloodline" but until it has proven iteself...it is just that, Gamebred. My thought on the subject is that even without our need or desire to test for gameness...our dogs are much more likely to be "game" than any other breed. It is kind of like "Which came first, the chicken or the egg?". Did we (humans) create gameness thru selective breeding or did we discover gameness that was already present and breed for it? What I do know is that I respect what our breed went thru to get here...and that is good enuff for me! __________________ Found Diesel while driving my Jeep Diesel...hence the name.
