Angry Just Have To Vent About Deeohgee

Gaud... I don't even know where to start with this story. I'm just so pissed off right now. Since Deeohgee's been back, she's been having some pretty severe fear reactions. When she left to go to her supposed ''FOREVER HOME'' she had ZERO fear issues. I'd really like to know what they did to this dog. Last night I literally had to lie on my back to get her to come to me. She is just so highly intellegent and sensitive, it hurts my heart to think someone was mistreating her. There's been a few weird incidents, like for instance, we were out and about, and a guy reached down to pet her and she hit the dirt and squinched up her eyes like she thought the guy was going to pop her one! It took about two seconds for her to recover and dole out the kisses but still. That is not the dog that left my care two and a half years ago. She's even ducked when Raven has turned around quick with something in her hands. Or one time, I went to clip her nails and she ran and hid in her kennel. I couldn't coax her out so I reached in to grab her collar and she screamed like I was killing her. I didn't want to stop and make her feel like that behaviour is something to continue as it was effective so I just continued getting ahold of her collar and pulling her out. I figured if she's going to be easily pushed into a bite due to fear, I want it to be on me and no one else. No bite, and we successfully cut her nails. The next time, was a little easier, and the third time, when she saw the clippers, she literally threw herself on to her back and waited for me! lol The intelligence level on this dog just blows my friggin' mind. I'd like to bitch slap the guy that had her. Deeohgee may just be a permanent resident. We pulled her off the adoptable list once these issues first started to show. Zero aggression so far, but I'm not taking any chances giving someone else the opportunity to mess her up some more.

That's unacceptable! That has to be hard, poor dear. Hopefully, she'll remember she's safe with you and come out of her shell a bit more. Good luck, and give her lots of hugs from all of us!

You know.... I think she really does know she's safe here. Most of the time she's fine, but weird things will trigger fear reactions. Like last night, Raven was eating and I had stuff to do in the other room and I didn't want Deeohgee bugging Raven so I called her to come with me, but she wouldn't cross the threshold for some reason. I kind of coaxed her but she was hesitant and when I walked towards her she ran away and hid in her kennel. She was curled up in a little ball and you could see how scared she was. I tried again to coax her out but I didn't want to grab her like I did before, so I just lied on my back and called to her and she came out and smoothered me in kisses. I wonder if there was a room she wasn't allowed in or something that she got in trouble for going into. Although, Scarling's pretty geeky and is hesitant with thresholds for some reason and she's allowed everywhere! lol

I think what is bugging me the most out of this situation is that this guy passed all the 'checks' with flying colors. His vet praised the crap out of him. He said all the right stuff. He even had a previous pit bull that was HA and he sought help for with a behaviorist/trainer but the dog was eventually euthed. He SOUNDED perfect on paper and everything else. Really makes me wonder what was REALLY up with his other dog.

Before this guy applied for Deeohgee, he had a pit bull that he euthed. He adopted Deeohgee from us two and a half years ago, and returned her recently. His girlfriend was pregnant and she was having nothing to do with a pit bull near her baby.

What a s*ck f! I'd make sure to call that vet, and/or know that his praise is worth crap for any future people.

Sad story, I hope she can overcome whatever weird stuff he must have put her through.

You and me both! As sad as I am that we quit fostering, there is a side of me that is almost glad. It's really made me a bit bitter towards being responsible for putting a dog, especially a pit bull, in someone elses hands, especially because we are so careful and screen hard. Not that we don't have great success stories but when crap like this happens, that ''close the circle'' saying seems stuck in my head.

That is EXACTLY what I think was going on. You can tell this guy was harsh whipped and she was a real bitch, to be honest. They already had a new puppy and she was complaining that it always wanted to eat and crap. I wonder how long before that dog is ditched.

that totally sucks.some people.especially since she is such a sensitive dog, with lots of dogs the rough handling stuff just seems to roll right off them but with one like deeohgee well they are just so eager to please that they get confused and sketch out.when we got Bella she just wanted to hide in the bottom of our closet and when we would go out in the yard she would hide in the bushes and watch us but she would only come out if i was sitting down beside the kids.it sounds like you are handling things alright though just keep up the positive reinforcement! poor deeohgee.why the hell do these people even get dogs in the first place??

Ahh crap Zoe, I remember when you found this guy, he sounded perfect for Deeohgee . I agree with the others, it sounds like he hooked up with a real winner, and I wouldn't be surprised if she was the one who "disciplined" this poor dog while he wasn't around .
