Default Emaciated Pit Bull-Free To A Good Home

By ERIC BRADNER
Courier & Press staff writer 464-7445 or bradnere@courierpress.com

Free to a good home: A year-old pit bull in desperate need of love and care.

When Animal Control officers found him tied up in an Evansville garage Saturday, he hadn't eaten for weeks.

The tan dog they've named Jon is "just emaciated beyond belief," said Animal Control head Tom Hayden.

"We need to help this dog out," he said. "He loves to be around people. He's nothing but a good little dog looking for somebody to love and take care of him."

He said Animal Control is fattening Jon up, and the pit bull is moving around better than he was when officers found him Saturday.

"This is the type that pulls at your heart," Hayden said.

Jon was found on the 400 block of South Garvin Street. The people who owned the garage reportedly said they didn't own the dog or know it was in there.

It's hard to tell how old the pit bull is, but Hayden said Jon is probably 1 to 1 1/2 years old.

It's amazing the dog even survived, he said.

Anyone interested in adopting Jon should contact Animal Control at 435-6015.

Animal Control also uses its Spirit Fund to care for animals like Jon that are in need of medical attention. Money is tight, Hayden said, and donations to that fund can help care for animals. Donations can be made by check to the Spirit Medical Fund and mailed to 815 Uhlhorn St.

The nerve of some ppl, lying through their teeth claiming knowing anything about the dog. If you dont want a dog, put it down, don't let it starve to death!!!
