Do you let your dog eat off of your dishes? (Trainers see this)

Does your dog ever get to lick your plate or is that a big NO?
Now for trainers, when you let your dog lick your plate, does that give them an ok to do it when you dont want them to?

  2. JC has drank out of my gl$#@!. He's eaten from my spoons and forks.

Jake is horrid... for someone who never wanted a dog (and then foolishly married me! :D) he lets Sierra lick his plate clean

none are allowed to lick the dishes clean.. all leftover food goes in the garbage unless i didnt put any seasoning in it, then if not, it gets put in their bowls..

Nope, they aren't allowed to lick our plates or bowls....We will throw them left-overs or put them in theirs bowls, but they can't eat off of our plates.

... Princesa will sit by the table and watch us eat or sit under it waiting for things to fall (from the 5 y/o) ... but she doesnt beg, whine, or jump up...

Nothing irritates me more than beggin'! I will give the dogs certain left overs, but no... they don't lick off our plates or get anything off of them while we are eating. If they are going to get any left overs, I save them until their dinner time, generally.

I don't let the dogs lick my plate. Not because I think it would create a problem but because we don't share dishes. I don't eat out of their bowls (no snarky comments out of you ALAN!), they don't eat off of my plates.

Yeah, we don't allow begging either. If they are getting annoying, for example, when Notch start to dip drool on my shoe, then they are sent to their beds...But they usually sit nicely by, without any problems.

Shelby can eat off my plate when I'm done with it then she can lick it clean.
This saves on dish washing detergent. :D

LOL, that's exactly the line I used to use when the kids or DH wanted to let the dogs clean the plates.

And while the bacteria in a dogs mouth is relatively stable, they also tend to use their mouths for other things, like, licking body parts, feet, picking up roadkill.....

    Yuck.

Most of the time left overs go in their bowls, if they don't beg and lay quietly while we eat.

I set up my last dog Nakita for bad habits...and obesity...
We would feed her scraps from our plates while we were at the dinner table...and more than likely she would get the left-overs with her food as well....
She was a HUGE beggar, and she got a bit over weight......

SO...when I got the first of my 3 I have now, I decided then and there I wouldn't do it again.

I've got a cute sign in my kitchen that says "No Begging"....:D

No licking of plates at all, she can't stare at me when I eat, I've always told her to go lay down somewhere. I had to do this cause she goes to work with me and when we go into the community break room others are there, if she bugged them I would have trouble, so she was trained early on, eating? lay down and just chill, and ignore us eating, it was very hard to get everyone at lunch not to want to give her a morsel.
IMHO if they sit and stare or are waiting near and watching for drops, it's begging.
    So she's not allowed.
