Thread: DIY break stick

  1. DIY break stick

I just found this and thought I'd share.

    Making Your Break Stick

So, I don't have a break stick yet . . . I know, I know. Better to have and not need than to need and not have. I totally agree.

Question is what do all you pit people think about this DIY break stick? Is it as good as any other? Will it work just the same? If so I'm heading to Lowe's . . .;)

Well, I don't have a talented bone in my body, so I wouldn't try to make one. We have a member on here that makes/sells them, he would be the one to ask. His screen name is Boogieman. I know the type wood you use is very important. I ordered mine from PBRC before I found out Boogie sold them. I'm just not good with sharp objects, so I would probably cut a finger off! :D

Same here, I'm not even allowed to gut my own deer lol.

As cheap as breaksticks are, I would rather buy one and know it's well made and won't fail when I need it.

First off I'm no expert on this...but those instructions look like it would work just fine. On the other hand, you can always PM boogieman and order one from him. His are very fairly priced, and he ships em fast too. And you know you've got someone who knows what they are doing making em. :)

You want to use a good wood and I don't think you would want any type of coating or varnish on the wood. You also need to have enuff tapered length to make them effective. I like the poly sticks myself...just a preference.

  7. Is there by any chance any chemical in the poly that could harm the dogs? I couldn't find any info relating to this, but I know that some plastics can be bad. Just curious.

  8. I'd go to Boogieman before I'd make my own, honestly. His stuff rocks.
