Kiko was rescued from being chained on a vacant lot with 3 other dogs for the first few years of her life. When she was first rescued she was skin and bones at 38 pounds and had heartworms. Now at a normal weight she is 50 pounds and successfully undergone heartworm treatment. She has also had four months of obedience training and competed in an AKC Obedience competition May 28/29 and got a score of 192 1/2 out of 200 on day one and a 191 on day two! She knows heel, sit, down, stand for exam, stay, and come (on and off leash, in the face of all kinds of distractions). Her adoption is contingent upon her adopters completing handling lessons (no charge) to learn what Kiko knows and how to use, not lose, her training.
Kiko will need to be adopted by someone who will not be living with cats. She now has self control and is obedient around cats, but she still should not be trusted with them without close supervision. She gets along well with humans of all ages and dogs of all sizes (she is fostered harmoniously with three). She is a very nice house dog: she is a super cuddler and content to lie on the couch or in her crate, and is ready to go on a long hike too. She's frisky but mannerly, a real joy to have around. She doesn't jump up or mouth but will do adorable zoomies when she's very happy. She didn't have much of a personality before training but has blossomed into a really nice dog. She's a soft, submissive type who has adjusted remarkably well to the heavy activity of walks downtown, in pet stores, and outdoor events considering her total lack of early socialization.
Kiko is a truly special dog who has overcome severe neglect to become an outstanding dog who you can take with you anywhere that dogs are allowed with the tools your training relationship provides. Her adoption fee is $150.00, which is nothing considering people routinely pay $1,800.00 for this level of off leash obedience.
