He was horribly emaciated and had lots of scars (I included a pic of when of when he was first found, he's since gained about 15 lbs). We introduced him to our resident dogs very slowly over a few weeks. He has had no issues and loves playing with them. He happily shares food and loves to cuddle with the other dogs. His movement was restricted while recovering from heartworms, now he celebrates by literally skipping! It's the cutest thing ever! He gets so high that he looks like a cartoon. He's such a happy dog, amazing when you consider all he's been through. He has put on weight and he's looking very healthy and beautiful. He snorts like a little piglet when he's happy which is all the time http://www.lunarmagazine.com/forum/i...icon_smile.gif He loves to snuggle and is so appreciative of his new life. We can't wait until he gets his forever home that he deserves, someone is going to get an amazing companion!
Sadly, black pits seem to be one of the most common at the shelters in metro Atlanta and unfortunately they also seem to get the least amount of attention. His Petfinder page has been up since early December when he could be pre-adopted but we haven't gotten one single email of interest in him. It usually takes months for us to find an approved adopter, but we still get in a applications or emails with questions about the dogs, but nothing for Rufus. We have another black pit that looks just like him, except bigger who has also had no interest. It would be a big help if we can get people to pass on his info in an email or post it on their Facebook.
Donations for the on going care of pits like Rufus at Atlanta Bully Rescue would also be greatly appreciated. We have a paypal button on our website: http://www.abrevents.net/AtlantaBullyRescue.html
Re: This sweet boy is looking for his forever home!
If someone is interested in adopting him but can't afford the adoption fee I wouldn't mind pitching in $20. But that's only if they really can't afford it and they offer a good home.
Re: This sweet boy is looking for his forever home!
My husband and I have been to cobb county animal control several times just to go and look and see what they have and the majority of the dogs are pit bulls and no one is adopting them. I myself had reservations about the breed until a little puppy ended up in my arms quite unexpectedly ( she was dumped on a country road ) she's 9 weeks we think now. I've been learning since feb the 21 when we bought her home intending to find another home for her but she is just adorable. I work for a vets and we try to not send pits to CCAC and will try to find another home for them, IF ccac did not bring in the dog to begin with we cannot do so. We'd have to adopt from ccac then but I'm not sure if ccac has changed their rules on pits. For a while there, they stopped adopting out any pit bulls period. I think this may have changed not sure though because when we went several months ago they had many pits that were up for adoption. I hope they did change their policy. However, most of them will end up being killed.

He has a an approved application. They actually came to look at puppies only but Rufus wouldn't stop hugging them They were going to wait on a puppy from a litter that won't be ready for a few weeks but then called and said they couldn't stop thinking about Rufus! As long as they pass their home inspection Wednesday, this precious boy has a loving home!
Re: This sweet boy is looking for his forever home!
A couple with an approved application came to look at the puppies this past weekend making it very clear they were not interested in an adult ;D They picked out a puppy but Rufus wouldn't stop hugging them, it was so adorable! After they left they immediately emailed us and said they changed their minds and wanted Rufus instead! I love it when the dogs pick their new parents! We were so happy for this sweet boy that we got teary eyed % Their home inspection was tonight and they passed with flying colors. They've already gotten him a bunch of stuff, I have a feeling he's going to be very spoiled. They got him a crate but they said he'd be sleeping in their bed at night which they showed him when they were giving him the tour of his new home. They were so excited and so was Rufus, he just made himself right at home on the couch in front of the TV. They said it was their 9 year anniversary today and this was the best gift ever!
His new name is Logan
Can anyone recommend a good vet in or near Roswell, GA? They want to interview a few this weekend by taking him by for an exam, they really want to pick a vet they'll stick with long term. Because he recently recovered from heartworms they're very concerned about finding the best vet in their area to continue his check ups.
Re: This sweet boy is looking for his forever home!
I just have to say that I Rufus/Logan! (I have since he's been on PF!)
I think my Vet is too far, but she's Dr. Sherry Weaver at the Animal Hospital of Towne Lake (the other Vets are awesome there, too.) Dr. Weaver is the "Ask the Vet" from Cesar's website and has written several books on pet first aid, etc.
