PLEASE HELP!! ROSIE AND MASON WERE SURRENDERED YESTERDAY TO GREENVILLE ANIMAL CARE SERVICES/SHELTER IN SC!!!!Hi.My name is Rachel and I live in Greenville, SC. I have a two year old pit bull rottweiler mix female named Rosie. I also have a male one and a half year old boxer mixed with pit bull or bull mastiff or both (we aren't sure). I got Rosie first for companionship and she was an excellent puppy. She was easy to potty train, she didnt chew things a lot, and she understood boundaries as far as not leaving the yard ( i did not have a fence). I moved into a smaller apartment and soon met someone. We moved in together and soon after thought it would be a "good" idea to get Rosie a playmate. At that time, Rosie was playing well with cats and other dogs. We found Mason, and it took me a few weeks, and then I fell totally in love with that dog. Just one look at him still makes my heart melt. Mason was the total opposite of Rosie. He peed everywhere and pooped in the house if I wan't home, he has chewed everything I own. I have replaced furniture, just to have the new stuff ruined as well. I cannot begin to desribe the disasters I have come home to. He also jumps and scratches me when I come home from work, and, I guess because of the boxer, paws at the windows with so much excitement when he sees me coming to the door. I have called him "my marley dog" and "mannerless mason". Within six months, my "fiance" and I were in a really unhealthy relationship, he was a horrible binge drinker, I was in a constant depression becausse of the circumstances. I stopped taking the dogs to the parks, etc. I think my biggest mistake with the dogs was that we moved out to the coutry thinking the dogs would be able to "roam" ( they knew to stay in the yard at our old house), but because of a little dog on the property named "pain", which he is, my dogs became limited to leashes. Rosie and Mason were never aggressive with pain. In fact they did get off leashesonce, chased him down to his yard, and by the time i got there, they were both sitting down in front of pain, heads cocked to the side with curiosity, as pain growled at them. Also during this time, Rosie became pregnant by Mason. Again, I was in a failing relationship, totally unbalanced, and my dogs were the victims of this. I know I have failed them terribly. Rosie had a litter of nine puppies in December, and the "fiance" had totally abandoned me and our responsibilities on a horrible binge in January, leaving me with eleven dogs total, as well as a full time job and a son who is with me part time. I decided I would see the puppies through to good homes...it was a long three months, but I was able to do that. I also purchased runners for them during this time, which I know now was not the right course of action. But I had become a newly "single parent" to the dogs, and i was simply trying to handle all the responsibility. Soon after, Mason was neutered which has helped some, but it came at a cost because rosie and mason both became terrribly ill ( he was neutered at the humane society). I spent a ton of money and it took a month to get them well. I have been really nervous about having Rosie spayed for that reason. I hope that is not an immediate denial of my plea. Also, in the past five months Mason has broken three windows, one of which was a bloody mess while I was at work, and I had to rush him to the emergency hospital on a sunday for staples. He has broken another one since then when my landlord came to fix my front door. Both dogs are extremely, extremely protective of the house and mason just gets really, really excited. If anyone comes in the yard, or walks by, or another dog, they just go crazy!! Rosie is the instigator, but Mason does the most damage. Needless to say, with three broken windows and a terrified landlord I am being evicted. I also have other "issues", personally, and as much as it KILLS me I did start searching for more suitable homes for them a few months ago, with no luck. It has been SO PAINFUL to know its coming at some point, but it just drags on and on. I have tried craigslist, petfinder, my local vet, trainers, etc looking for placement, There are no rescues here in SC taking "owner surrenders", and no one wants the task of resocializing my dogs...basically fixing my mistakes. It's understandable. PLEASE UNDERSTAND, THE DOGS' BEHAVIOR HASONLY CHANGED SINCE I MOVED OUT TO THE COUNTRY AND ISOLATED THEM FROM EVERYONE AND EVERYTHING! IT'S MY FAULT.I want you to know, these dogs are extremely loving and I'm head over heals for them. They put up with a lot of "junk" from my wild little eight year old boy and they love him dearly. My son, Jake and the two dogs can be found at night all curled up together on his bed, legs all intertwined, etc. I will miss seeing that!! They are secluded from the world, stuck in a little 900 square foot house in the country while I work, and I'm totally inadequate with the breeds. They need strict training, but they need someone who has time for them. I have completely failed them, and I dont want them euthanized because of my mistakes. I just can't handle that! I can't live with myself. I took them to Astro Kennels last week for an assessment with a trainer named Doug who trains the Greenville County K-9 dogs. He is as knowledgable as they get in my area with aggressive breed dogs. THey did pretty well. Rosie caught right on to the strict leash training, as well as sat on command. Mason did fight him on the leash quite a bit, but he is really good at sitting or laying down on command. Both did well with a german shepard trained to dislike other dogs. They didn't look too comfortable but they did not attack. He felt like they were both absolutely trainable and did not reccomend euthanasia. He said their problem is mainly a lack of socialization, combined with my inability to be the "pack leader", which I totally agree with. They are both up to date on all shots. The only problem I could think of in that respect is that Rosie is not spayed. I can get vet references and documentation. I am being evicted, probably, July 20th. I go to court that day. I honestly cant take them with me. I am going to have to stay with family, for personal reasons as well as because of the situation created by my dogs. I have been trying to place them in a temporary home (foster) or permanent placement for a month and every door has closed. My biggest fear is that I will have to put them to sleep when I have to move and I have no where to take them. Please, please help, or atleast advise me on what to do next. I am desperate to just get through this! I know I am going to have to say goodbye to my "babies". I just dont know how or when. I just want them to be happy and healthy, and I'll always love them.
