"Walks-in-white-paint" needs to be saved from the axeman 3/14/2011

    Female
    Color

    Age
    Adult (2-8 Years)
    Weight

    Death row deadline Monday 3/14/2011 @ 4pm

TEMPORARY FOSTER (just a few days?) NEEDED

"Walks-in-white-paint" (not her real name) was owner surrendered to the SPCA. Her owner said she doesn't get along with other dogs so she was deemed unadoptable & put on the euthanasia list. She's not the prettiest dog in the world, been neglected & has scars on her face, but she deserves a life nonetheless.

Since they say she doesn't get along with other dogs, I can't chance it with my house full of feisty pit rescues. But if someone wants to foster her for just a few days & evaluate or socialize her with other dogs, I'll take her if she's safe.

I'll pay for all the fees, and I'll transport her myself anywhere in PA, DE, MD or possibly points further.

I saw your Craigslist ad and I wanted to say that a DA dog is NOT going to "chill out" and be ready to "hang out" with your gang of dogs over a few weeks time of "socializing" her. DA pit's are common and normally aren't able to break them from it. If you do take her you are going to have to crate and rotate her along with your other pit's.

What does it take to save 1 dog?

Hey everyone, I'd like to pose a socio-philosophical question: what does it take to save 1 dog?

Is the answer money? Communication? Luck? Pixie dust?

Let's put it to the test. There is, at the local shelter, a totally nondescript dog: a black pit bull who was brought in by her owner because he didn't want her anymore--yadda yadda, same story you've heard a million times. I'll be honest, she's a piece of work. She doesn't get along with other dogs, but with people she's totally cool so she'd be ideal for a 1-dog household or someone who's skilled at socializing dogs with each other.

ALL SHE NEEDS IS A FOSTER HOME to take her for a few weeks, and that'll save her life (she's scheduled to be put down on Monday evening).

So there you have it. Even if you can't take her, please spread the word or email me with ideas.

    --------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Update: A few people have asked why I can't take her myself. Believe me, I wanted to. But instead I took 3 other pit bulls from the shelter because they got along. If someone could take this dog for just a few weeks & socialize her, then I'd be happy to take her off your hands after she's ready to chill with the rest of my dogs. That's the plan.

Bloody stupid reason to deem her unsuitable for adoption.

AMEN. Thanks for getting the point, chloe.

Even *if* the dog "doesn't get along with other dogs" (which by the way has never been officially verified--the shelter just took the owner's word for it without evaluating her themselves) that doesn't mean she isn't a great family dog nor does it mean that she's a hopeless "DA" who deserves to get the gas chamber.

    ***UPDATE***

I got a 2-day stay of execution for the girl. She has until Wednesday 3/16 @ 4pm

I went down to the shelter to meet her in person. Rumors of her "aggression" have been greatly exaggerated. I suspect the owner just made up that reason because he was too ashamed to admit that he just couldn't afford a dog.

And as a result, she's blacklisted & nobody wants to touch her. It's a dog's life, aint it.

Here's a video I took. Not a very good one but it shows her better than the picture does.

Please help get the word out. I've had zero inquiries. And none of the PB rescues I've tried (14 of them) are willing to help.

Ahh.. the Kent County SPCA. As a former employee.. I know how it works. :/ I about dropped dead the one day I walked through adoption, and there was a blue APBT with cropped ears. As wanda thinks all blue and red APBTs are "bred for fighting." I laughed in her face.

I hope you got this girl out of there, assuming you can handle her.

And please.. There are NO gas chambers at the KCSPCA. All animals are done by Fatal Plus injection. Delaware banned gas chambers a while back.

  6. Re:

Haha, yes I know there are no gas chambers, firing squads or guillotines in DE. I just like to use hyperbole to get peoples' attention. I keep forgetting that some states actually do use gas chambers.

    The KCSPCA... yeah... never mind...

    ******UPDATE******

This dog is NOT dog-aggressive. Not by a mile. Whatever idiot owner said she "doesn't get along with other dogs" was either lying or beating her, because she is a model canine citizen in a normal home.

With other dogs she was apprehensive at first, as if she'd never met a friendly dog before, but she learned to make friends fast.
She tested fine, both indoors & out, with
    male golden retriever
    male chocolate lab
3 different female pit bulls (all hyper)
    male chow (dominant)
    male pit (large)
    female springer spaniel (very small)
    cat

and she did great with all of them at the same time in a pack.

Video of her first meeting with 2 dogs here:

    (sorry about the lousy video)

Unfortunately nobody's interested (can you believe not a single bite), so her fate is still uncertain. But for what it's worth this should teach us all not to judge a dog before we've met her. I know I was surprised.

So she still is alive? I thought she only had till the 16th? I hope someone is able to pull her if she is such a great dog.
