Merriam-Webster's Word of the Day for May 17, 2012 is:
maffick • \MAF-ik\ • verb
: to celebrate with boisterous rejoicing and hilarious behavior

Examples:
Fans mafficked for hours outside the stadium, celebrating the team's dramatic victory in the division championship.

"In half an hour, after the mildest of mafficking, the last visitors of the exhibition's last day had gone out of the gates and the staff began their final acts of closing up shop." — From an article in The Guardian (London), October 1, 2011

Did you know?
"Maffick" is an alteration of Mafeking Night, the British celebration of the lifting of the siege of a British military outpost during the South African War at the town of Mafikeng (also spelled Mafeking) on May 17, 1900. The South African War was fought between the British and the Afrikaners, who were Dutch and Huguenot settlers originally called Boers, over the right to govern frontier territories. Though the war did not end until 1902, the lifting of the siege of Mafikeng was a significant victory for the British because they held out against a larger Afrikaner force for 217 days until reinforcements could arrive. The rejoicing in British cities on news of the rescue produced "maffick," a word that was popular for a while, especially in journalistic writing, but is now relatively uncommon.

Does anyone find that its easy to get out of hand with treats when rewarding?

I'm training my pup daily & i figure she eats 10 treats each session, 3 sessions each. Do these treats have any nutritional value that can actually help them instead of it just being "sweet tooth" type thing.

The treats i'm currently using is

Evo's Wild Cravings - Chicken & Turkey formula
Crude Protein 47%
Crude Fat 15%
Crude Fiber 2.3%
And its 12 kcal per treat

As for her condition. She is very lean and solid.

last fall/winter while driving home i seen someone walking a blue Ambully (yey i can tell the differance-thank you!)
the dog was obviously young i would have guessed about 6 months or so he was very obviously UN-neuterd and the guy walking him had him attatched to a HUGE chain like something you would use to tow a friggin truck! the dog had NO collar jsut the chain and a huge padlock locking it together
i jsut shook my head and told my bf "you know what HE was intende for"

well sure as shit a few months ago we drove past again only to see a heavily pregnant chocolate and white bully being walked by the same guy this female was oh so very small and seemed quite young, also being held on a huge chain with no collar.

well suprise suprise guess what i seen in the local news paper ads

"pure bred blue nose champion american pit bull terriers for sale! 3 males 4 females!
asking 750 for females,600 for males!
make great guard dogs! ready to go now! born april 12th!"

i showed my bf the ad and was ranting and raveing about the morons, and im even MORE angry at my bf becuase his reply was
"well dont you want to breed a litter of bull terriers pups some day?"
"thats differant! for one i want to breed from GOOD show lines, second mom is going to be health tested andUPD on health tests as will the stud male AND the puppies are not going to leave untill 10 weeks old!"

"he said "well i dont see the problem they are jsut trying to make a living.."
i said "THAT IS THE PROBLEM!!!! breeding dogs is NO way to make a living!!"
"i dont see why not"
"AHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHH IDIOT!!!!!! im dateing an idiot!!
just shoot me now before i shoot him,AND the owners of them poor dogs!

So about two weeks ago i was walking Boss who was at the time about 6.5 months old and 63lbs. I was making my regular rounds in the same places we always walk, when a garage directly across the street from where i was passing began to open, only to raise up about a foot before some fu**ing rabid acting SMALL DOG came sprinting at us, snarling, barking and everything else that comes with it.

As the dog came towards us, I was in an emotional state comprised of surprise, anger, fear, and inability to react, coupled by the fact that i thought the dog would not actually do anything like usual with these types of dogs. I simply did not know the proper reaction. I knew my dog would not hurt a fly even if i wanted him to, which also kept me standing there, expecting nothing. I wasn't willing to kick the shit out of that mutt anchorman style like i should have at the time, seeing as how I did not want a domestic dispute topped off with a pit bull.

The "pound puppy"(DOG NOT PUPPY) was dragging one of those POS retractable string leashes indicating that it had violently torn loose from its pathetically incapable owner, who pathetically chased after it with futility. After about 3-4 seconds of the other mutt snarling, barking, growling, and biting, I was able to react and pick up my pup, who was standing there uncharacteristically calm, turning with the smaller dog thinking it wanted to say hi or sniff him. I was almost disappointed that he didn't rip the dogs throat out. And I was disappointed in myself for reacting so slowly and calmly. I have a tendency of remaining too calm at times, and look back and think that i should have done something differently, more violently, for whatever reason.

Once I had picked my dog up the other continued to jump up my leg snapping, barking, and snarling. By the time the female owner had made her way out of her garage to the other side of the road, it had been about 10 seconds. I was pretty angry at the time but kept my cool, pulled out my iphone light and began to check over my dog. It was dark outside, so i could not see too well, and initially thought that miraculously nothing had happened. I was apparently wrong. He appears to have gotten a puncture wound on his back leg. He has had a small scab consistent with a small tooth entry wound since then and I just realized it was a scab. I thought it was maybe a couple hairs knotted or something else, but not a scab, because he showed no sign of distress at the time. He may have not felt it idk.

After briefly checking my dog, I told the lady it was okay as she repeatedly apologized without effect, because I have this disposition to keep people comfortable around me. Basically I am just the worlds nicest person, and very foolishly so. I cannot help but be this way though. The lady proceeded to tell me of how the dog was "a pound puppy" and that she has to put her cats food and his food at polar opposite ends of the yard or else he attacks the cats for no reason. This was a painfully shitty excuse for any dog to attack another, completely unwarranted.

Now, two weeks later, I inspect my dogs leg to find a small scab, and to have anger reignited inside me. I want action. I want that dog euthanized. I want that piece of shit gone from my neighborhood. I want reimbursement for a veterinary visit to insure things are fine. Things probably are perfectly okay, but that should NOT change anything. I am fuming, and find myself begging to go back in time and re-experience this all so I could correctly react and kick the life out of that rabid aggressive mutt. I want to to whatever i need to do to provoke action on either her part of the law's part.

So, PBC, I am asking you what to do next, as I have never been through this. I am so angry, because it is not the damage done that matters, it is the principle of what happened. It was completely uncalled for, and I want repercussion. I have small dogs, a toy poodle and a Boston Terrier, both of whom my dog gets along with perfectly, which further adds to my side of things. Words just can't describe how angry I have become tonight. Along with not receiving my collar or hearing from Nizmo's K9 Supply, I am infernal. PLEASE HELP.
I apologize for difficulty to read, as that was a remark i got on my first and only other post here at good ol PBC.

I have room next to my deck that is 21ft X 25ft that I will be using for the kennel. I was going to lay concrete with a 5ft fence. Then I was thinking that it could put stress on their joints and other body parts. What are some people's opinions on concrete flooring?

Does anyone have a link or pics of different dog kennel's?
Thanks everyone!

Kitty was bitten by some sort of insect this morning while we were at my workplace. I went back to check on her, all was fine, then went back an hour later and the right side of her face was all swollen and horrible looking.

We gave her injectable benedryl and it has gone down a little since, but here is a picture after we got home this evening. She doesn't act like she is bothered by it at all, still eating and not scratching at it.
Marsha, developing some tiny muscles. She was getting pretty chubby there for a while, but she is starting to look good again!
Here are a couple pictures from my walk with Kitty yesterday. I just can't believe how grown up she is looking! She is somewhere around 10 months old now.

hello

I brought home today two foster Yorkies. They are males around 4 years old. They are really really calm, adorable.
My female pit is also very calm and really good with other dogs.
The introduction was ok, they were calm so was she but now any time they get close she growls at them. Not a lot... seems like she is saying.. who are you weird stinky creatures... stay away from me. They are scared of her too..
My question is, what can I do so they adapt well. Do you guys have any tips?
Will she be jealous or dangerous to them? What can I do to make sure she wont be jealous and everything goes smoothly?

Thank you

Now, if any of them are outside he will walk around and sniff FOREVER until we take all the others inside and then he will "decide" to go. Has anyone else had this problem or is it Ares just being a stubborn pup? Any suggestions to help get him over this?

2 years ago tomorrow, my sweet guardian angel dog, went to the rainbow bridge. And not a day goes by that I don't think about him. Not a day goes by that I wonder if I could have saved him. Not a day goes by that I don't miss him. But not a day goes by that I doubt that he isn't here, because I don't think he has ever left us. His presence is very much here, because he lives in our memories. Regardless of how much I've healed and how much I've moved on, there is still a small part of my heart that is still broken.

So to my little guardian angel pooch:
I miss you so damn much and I often wonder what things would be like if you were still here. I still wonder what would have happened if I had chose to keep fighting instead of letting you go. Could I have saved you? What could I have done different that would have ensured you would still be in my life? You will always be my little buddy.

You taught me how precious and fragile life is, how short it can be. You taught me to never take a moment for granted. If people could live like you did, we would be so much better for it. You lived your short life to the fullest, you lived in the moment. You appreciated every day.

Thank you for being in my life even though it was only for a brief moment in time.

Hi All. I recently was asked if i wanted a pitbull pup. I said yes and took a male. My son also decided to get one and has his sister. I have begun potty trainin em. We go to the back of the property line on a leash and thats where they r to do their business. So far has been relatively smooth sailing. Until today. I spent 3 hrs trying to get them to poop. It had been 2 hrs since last they pooped and about 10 min after they ate. I ended up puttin them on short chains with stakes until they pooped. Mine finally did and the girl never did. I would every 20 min or so go down and walk them along the line. Is this an ok way to go about this???? also i am feeding them puppy food about every 5-6 hrs at about 1/2 to 3/4 cup 3 times aday. Any help/advice would surely be welcome.

Thanx
Shawn

Its just from the Rescue center's website and there are some photos of her. She looks happy and content. And even though I feel the situation was completely preventable to begin with, people are human and make mistakes. Even though I don't agree with all the publicity that went along with this and the huge circus is caused (you know it had some negative effects on the breed). And even though I don't know that saving one dog is worth risking the lives of many others. I'm starting to think maybe I was wrong, maybe she was worth the fight. I mean look at her, she looks so full of life and she looks content just to be. And the you know if it was my dog (especially if the mistake was mine to begin with) I would have done the same exact thing. I would have fought so hard and did whatever it took to keep her alive, because I wouldn't want my dog to die from my mistakes.

All I am saying is, after looking at her and seeing these photos, I'm thinking Maybe Just Maybe her life was indeed worth saving.

(I'm sure I'll get some flack for this, but hey I came across this page and her photos and felt it might be good to share)

Hi Guys,

I am new to Pit Bull world and I was hoping I can get some important points about Pit Bull puppies and perhaps even share some info with you all in the future.

Since I am new to APBT world I would like to ask you few questions.

My pappy is 9 weeks old and he bites everything and anything possible including my hands.

Question:

1 . How do I get him to stop biting my hands? Will he grow out of it in the future ?

Also

When we are outside the second I call him he runs to my direction but at home sometimes he just ignores me.

2. Is it perhaps his to young or he is to dominant at his known territory ?

During the day his outside most of the time although he comes into the house whenever he pleases but at night he will not sleep anywhere else but on my bed and sometimes on my chest and under my arm. Ive tried to leave him out side but he cries so hard and long that awakens my neighborhood.

3. Is it perhaps clod weather (+ 10 degrees) or that's where he feels safe ?

Any info will be appreciate it.

Thanks
My husband, our two boys 3yr and 5wks and our lovely pit Zeus who is 4yrs.
I joined this site to keep in touch with other pit bull lovers and to help show others out there that they are deeply wrong about this breed.
For goodness sake, pits were once used as nanny dogs. I know that Zeus loves to be around his "pups", weather my 3yr old is outside; Zeus goes running out with him to keep an eye out and to play.
When it comes to my 5wk son crying Zeus is there in the room laying by his side until I am able to get to him.

I also joined because unfortunately my 6month pit was stolen right out of my yard! I don't know how it happened with Zeus being there (might've been someone we know). I am looking for another pit for my children and for Zeus. Ever since his girl has been gone he's been pretty sad and I hate to see him like this.
Please help me...I know that I was lucky to receive Zeus for free and would like to rescue another pit. Weather it's the same situation as Zeus (he was in a house with other rescue dogs but two of them didn't get along with him and he didn't get along with them). Other than that Zeus loves to play with all dogs =)

I am looking for help with my 1 year old deaf pitbull, Quatto. We rescued her when she was about 3 months old, she has always been a very sweet and loving dog ... she would get extremely excited when guests would come over, but nothing that was a problem. Recently we have started to notice that she has become more aggressive towards other people. The other day she snapped at my grandmother when she came over. We also have a daycare next door and today my kids were talking to a couple of kids through the fence and Quatto ran up barking and tried to snap at the kids fingers. I don't know what to do and any suggestions would be very helpful. Like I said, she is such a sweet and lovey pup....but her behavior scares the hell out me!

I post this every so often on other sites to help educate people on pits.
Its a fun test to see if you can identify the pitbull.

Click the picture of the dog you think is the pitbull to see what breed it really is...
How many tries did it take you?

Why is that?
Do the people who run the forum have a grudge against feet? Or is there something Im missing?
Just curious lol...

It aggravates so bad how people are, especially when it comes to a damn bully. Gator is NOT "underfed or too skinny" as some people say, just because he's not a blue whale looking bully doesn't mean hes not healthy and well exercised.
These people saw Gator and thought he was just beautiful and looked really good, but then they saw this blue and told the owner that they wanted to breed their blue to him. The owner of the male is always breeding this dog, and he's had sired like 4 litters this past year, and once to a funky mixed looking red female who's puppies ended up at the pound.
And I mean sure he's pretty if that's your thing, but this blue male can't run 10 yards without plopping to the ground panting like he's fixing to die, he tried swimming once and couldnt do it, he's human aggressive, stays out on a chain all the time, and really can't do anything.
Here's Gator who can keep up with cars doing 20mph, he loves to swim, and he's started pulling weights. And people like his big blue who can't hardly run better than Gator and try to tell me how much better that dog is than mine.
I'd say Im a little pissed maybe Im just biased but I still think Gator is a better dog than that blue.
